CORE ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES
A Licensed Practical Nurse / Certified Medical Assistant performs a wide variety of tasks, which may include direct patient care and business office functions depending on the size of the assigned clinic. Direct patient care may include working with patients of all ages, in-person and over the phone, and completing tasks involving assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills. All patient care is provided under the direction of a physician and/or physician assistant. LPNs and CMAs also engage in reception activities, greeting, and assisting patients and visitors, and helping to complete the business side of a patient visit.
KEY TASKS- Integrates OCI's mission into daily tasks through dedication to customer satisfaction, quality improvement, and collaborative working relationships.
- Provides individualized care in collaboration with the patient and his/ her family under the direction of the physician to achieve expected patient care outcomes.
- Accurately room patients, obtain & record vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
- Accurately document all care provided, phone conversations, and procedures performed within the patient's medical record.
- Assists the provider with meeting educational needs of the patient/ family and distributes educational handouts when appropriate. Explain treatment procedures to patients and members of their family.
- Contacting insurance companies to pre-certify procedures and obtain retro authorizations for on call procedures.
- Preparing patients for examination and in office imaging and assisting the physician during the examination.
- Is knowledgeable of basic laboratory test results and their implications for patient
- Collect and prepare lab specimens or perform basic lab test on the premises and disposing of contaminated supplies.
- Prepare medications as directed by a physician and authorizing medication refills as directed.
- Removal of sutures, staples, cast and splints and change dressings when needed.
- Fitting and proper use of durable medical equipment.
- Clean exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient.
- Performs medical reception/clerical duties as needed including answering telephones, screening calls, taking messages, working task list, pulling patient information, copying, faxing and filing.
- Perform clinic preparation by obtaining medical record and relevant medical history preparing them for use by clinicians and obtaining any recent imaging reports and track notes.
- Ability to recognize/interpret the physical exam process, assessment, plan and visit details and record visit details in the health record (scribe)
- Manage provider time out, oversee provider outlook calendar, block provider clinic schedule, and proactively monitor and manage clinic schedule to maximize scheduled appointments.
- Assist Provider with scheduled P2P, meetings, IME, DEPO's
- Coordinating surgical procedures with multiple hospitals and surgery centers, scheduling and obtaining pre-operative testing, writing and communicating surgery orders, and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries.
- Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes
- Will serve as backup for other clinical staff as needed
- Completion of state-approved training program, current LPN license, or,
- Possess high school diploma or GED, current CMA or RMA certification (AAMA,NCCT, AMT)
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to all patients
- Possess effective human relations and communication skills
- Works cooperatively with others to provide quality patient care
