POSITION SUMMARY

Work from complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications, job orders, tooling instructions and standard charts to obtain such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions. Make required adjustments to machinery to compensate for material tooling, machine or program conditions. Troubleshoot and resolve various types of operating difficulties, recommend corrective action on process failures within the department. Determine correct tools to use to achieve required dimensions and finish tolerances; be able to measure finish using micrometers and other associated tools; be able to hold tight tolerances within .001"; be able to maintain proper and accurate records, including inspection reports.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows all environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, practices, protocols, and regulations. Proactively addresses any potential EHS issues and reports any unsafe conditions. Sets a positive example regarding EHS and a safety-first culture.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly (6S) work area and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment and quality products.
  • Set up and operate polishing equipment
  • Operate hand tools as needed in a safe and efficient manner
  • May need to operate overhead crane, forklift, and/or hand trucks as necessary
  • Choose correct tools to achieve desired product finish, based on material and other specifications
  • Read and understand drawings, and be able to hold tolerances within .001" required
  • Be able to properly utilize measuring tools such as a tape measure, micrometer, vernier or caliper
General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.
  • Meets on-site attendance requirements.
  • Pursues continuous improvement by suggesting, implementing, and supporting solutions/strategies to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and improve the operation, and decrease downtime; participates in continuous improvement activities and projects, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Work Experience:
  • 0 - 2 years' experience running manual polishing equipment or other hand tools
Education and Skills:
  • High School Diploma , GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, schematics, etc.
  • Ability to properly use micrometers and other measuring devices to determine tolerances within .001"
  • Ability to properly use a tape measure
  • Familiarity with polishing tools; their applications and uses; and other items associated with polishing equipment and machine work
  • Familiarity with required hand tools; their applications and uses; and safe handling requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without accommodation:
  • Position may require person to be on their feet to 8-10 hours standing or walking in a heavy manufacturing environment, constantly performing regularly scheduled maintenance duties
  • Ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds infrequently
  • Ability to safely operate forklift, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment
  • Ability to see and hear in order to perform the functions of this position
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English fluently
