As a registered nurse specializing in surgery, you would apply your expertise and knowledge to provide empathetic care to patients and their loved ones, making a positive difference in their lives during difficult circumstances. Working in a healthcare environment, you would work in tandem with other healthcare practitioners to create tailored care plans for each patient. Your role would entail diverse and rewarding responsibilities, encompassing administering medication, monitoring vital signs, providing emotional support, and educating patients and their families.

  • Preparing patients for surgery by reviewing their medical history, conducting physical assessments, and providing education about the procedure and what to expect.
  • Collaborating with the surgical team to develop and implement a care plan for each patient that includes monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Assisting the surgeon during the procedure by passing instruments, monitoring the patient's vital signs, and maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room.
  • Providing post-operative care to patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with wound care and pain management.
  • Educating patients and their families about post-operative care and helping to manage their expectations for recovery.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement plans of care to meet the needs of patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Providing leadership to other members of the healthcare team, delegating tasks as appropriate, and ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of surgical techniques, medications, and equipment used in surgical procedures.
Candidate requirements Nursing degree or an applied degree from an accredited nursing program. Valid and current RN license. Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care setting. Recommended to have a certification in perioperative nursing, such as the Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) credential offered by the Competency & Credentialing Institute. Completion of continuing education courses to maintain RN license, as required by the NCQA(Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications Current American Heart Association (AHA) and Health Care Provider (HCP) card 6 months to 1 year of experience in an emergency room (ER) setting Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required.
