Youth Development Staff

SUMMARY: Seeking a dedicated individual with a passion for community engagement and youth development who is looking to make a difference within neighborhood centers to join our team as a Youth Development Staff member You will help implement curriculum, ensure program goals are met, and create a safe, fun environment for participants in the Minnetonka Heights apartment complex with the YMCA. Helping youth and families with tutoring, food deliveries in the building, fun activities/events and more, this weekday, after-school role is the perfect opportunity for those seeking careers in human services, community service, childcare, education, youth and family services careers, starting at $15/hr. YMCA Neighborhood Centers provide youth and family services inside affordable housing complexes to meet families where they live to support basic needs and life skills development. The salary for this position starts at $15.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individuals background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status. Essential Functions: Working, as part of a team, to perform program activities as directed by the supervisor. Assist with daily curriculum. Communicate courteously with members and participants. Supervise and engage youth in activities. Maintain a safe environment. Assist in special programs and activities as required by supervisor. Relationships: This position reports to the Youth Development Coordinator or Program Director. The incumbent interacts regularly with staff, members, and the community. This position requires regular interaction with youth, families, members, and staff from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Qualifications: Required Must be self-directed, motivated, organized, and creative Ability and interest in working with people of diverse backgrounds Strong communication and mediation skills Work Conditions: Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment. Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently. Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities. Additional Notes: This job description represents the major functions of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive.
