SUMMARY: The Residential Director oversees the hiring, training, and development of CRC staff as well as the development and implementation of programming to ensure that Safe Harbor Ohio is providing a safe, nurturing and constructive environment for a group of children housed in a Christian environment. Provides oversight to all CRC staff through the direct supervision of the CRC COPS Team (as defined above) and other staff.

Serves as a member of the Safe Harbor Executive Team, providing leadership and oversight to Safe Harbor, as needed. Serves as a strategic partner with members of the executive team and Safe Harbor departments, taking a consultative approach to Safe Harbor leadership.

Job-specific essential functions include the following:
  • TEAM FIRST: Makes every effort to maintain a 'team first' spirit and atmosphere within the workplace environment, maintaining appropriate working relationships and promoting collaboration.
  • Works with CQI to ensure compliance with ODJFS rules and expectations. Prepares residential team for audits and inspections, completing Corrective Actions Plans as necessary.
  • Develops, implements and oversees programmatic goals and outcomes.
  • Conducts internal investigations providing information to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) department, Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS), the client's guardian, and others, as needed.
  • Develops, sets, and oversees budget expectations for productivity and expenditures.
  • Mediates and develops team cohesiveness.
  • Develops and oversees programmatic norms and expectations through systems development and tracking.
  • Provides Key Performance Indicator (KPI) feedback, census and other information, as requested, to Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
  • Reviews, tracks, and reports aggregate physical intervention data to ELT quarterly or as requested.
  • Ensures county relationships are functional and professional so that client treatment is maximized.
  • Communicates with counties to ensure counties are aware of the residential services Safe Harbor Ohio offers to promote understanding and increase referrals.
  • Ensures CRC staffing needs are supported through all available avenues of recruiting, including communication/strategy planning with marketing department, HR, universities, job fairs, and churches.
  • Ensures CRC staff are being adequately trained to best promote safety and provide trauma effective/informed care by introducing new training curriculum and evaluating current CRC training (SCM, mental health trainings, monthly cottage meetings, etc.), as needed.
  • Holds regular CRC staff meetings to encourage staff feedback and communicate CRC status updates.
  • Creates agenda for and leads weekly meetings with CRC COPS team, as defined above.
  • Ensures systems are in place for staff to have appropriate tools to carry out job duties, including, but not limited to maintenance and tracking of CRC radios.
  • Works with facilities department to ensure work orders for CRC are prioritized and completed in a manner that promotes a safe and functional work environment for staff and clients. Participates in discussions and implementation of plans to improve campus structures to best meet the needs of clients and create a safe facility without presenting as institutional.
  • Provides on-call availability 24/7 for campus emergencies requiring law enforcement or emergency medical vehicles to be on campus. Provides consultation in these events to campus leadership via phone and/or traveling to campus as needed. Notify agency CEO when the above incidents occur.
  • Available 24/7, as appropriate, to meet the needs of residents on-site or face-to-face via interactive videoconferencing when client's individual Therapist or CRC Medical Manager can not be reached.
  • Develops and coordinates monthly training schedule for residential-specific trainings for new CRC staff.
Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct supervision of CRC Medical Manager, Operations Manager, Program Manager, and Placement Manager. Provides leadership throughout campus, either directly or through others, to ensure overall safety, accountability, structure and tone of the campus.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and hiring; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performances; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ensures that Safe Harbor's vision and direction are communicated on a level that allows every employee to understand their ownership in the success of Safe Harbor and that they are a valued member of the organization.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret trade journals, clinical journals and studies, ethical standards and ODJFS rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate before groups of varying sizes of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to write, evaluate and teach appropriate clinical documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, required. Must be able to communicate well with colleagues, verbally and in writing to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Working understanding of DSM V/ICD 10 to provide interpretations of diagnoses required; assist in creation of ISPs, as needed. Ability to use medical terms related to mental health and psychiatric care.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to apply common sense. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite: familiarity with Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel. Ability to use or be trained in other software, including, but not limited to Safe Harbor Ohio/SpringVale Health Centers clinical documentation software (electronic health record).
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, as well as cope and tolerate high levels of stress.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
  • Master's degree in counseling or social work with an active Ohio LPC or LSW (LSW preferred) strongly preferred.
  • Independent licensure (LPCC/LISW) with supervisory designation (LPCC-S/LISW-S) strongly preferred, or seven to ten years of related experience, including supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Leadership experience in a Children's Residential Center required. Ohio CRC experience strongly preferred.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License and a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable on agency policy, as job includes occasional travel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear, including a requirement to stand or walk for extended periods of time, sometimes through uneven terrain.
  • Often required to use hands/fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to be outdoors in various weather conditions for extended amounts of time.

  • Must maintain compliance/certification with CCHO/Safe Harbor's requirements for using physical restraints (SCM: Safe Crisis Management), including sufficient strength and completion of extensive training.   • Must be able to drive a vehicle legally and safely in the state of Ohio or have reliable transportation to travel to meetings and conferences.
