Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be tasked with conceptualizing, designing, and developing mechanical systems, components, or products. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, interpreting customer requirements, creating detailed design specifications, and ensuring that the final product meets industry standards and design requirements. HIS is a vertically integrated supplier for various industries. Designs are manufactured and assembled in house. Experience with, and appreciation for, manufacturing equipment capabilities and knowledge of design for manufacturability (particularly for sheet metal and weldments) is highly desired.

Job Responsibilities:

Conceptualization and Design:
• Develop innovative concepts and ideas for mechanical systems and products.
• Create detailed designs using SolidWorks design software.
• Follow Design workflow using SolidWorks PDM for design development, review, and approval.

Material and Process Selection:
• Choose appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on design requirements and constraints.
• Consider factors such as cost, durability, and commonly stocked preference when selecting materials.

Prototyping and Testing:
• Build prototypes of designs for testing and validation when appropriate.
• Conduct various tests and simulations as needed to ensure product performance and safety.
Collaboration:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, account management, production/assembly, planning and purchasing staff to successfully carry designs from concept to release.
• Communicate and coordinate with customers and suppliers as needed to ensure the successful definition and production of designs.

Documentation:
• Create detailed design documentation, including drawings, specification packets, and bill of materials (BOM).
• Maintain accurate and organized records of design changes and revisions while keeping project dashboards current and up to date.

Cost Analysis and Budgeting:
• Estimate project costs related to materials, manufacturing, and labor.
• Work within budget constraints to achieve cost-effective designs.

Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure that designs comply with industry standards and regulations, including safety and environmental requirements.

Continuous Improvement:
• Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
• Seek opportunities to optimize existing designs for improved performance and efficiency.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• CAD design experience, SolidWorks & PDM experience preferred
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques. Sheet metal and weldment design experience preferred.
• Prior hands-on experience with tools and/or equipment a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Commitment to quality and pride in workmanship.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

Experience:
• 3-7 years of relevant Mechanical Design experience
