Position

Position: Developer Tools Engineer

Location: Champaign, IL office (candidate must be willing to relocate and work on-site)

The Engineering Operations team at Riverbed is a skilled team of developers who work with other teams to improve engineering productivity. Our team has a high standard for repeatability, reliability, and robustness in the tools and services that we deploy and maintain. Our objective is to streamline engineering's operational practices and drive continuous improvements in quality, reliability, and efficiency. You'll be working with collaborative, motivated, professional engineers who are intent on getting the right result, utilizing cutting-edge methodologies to create new tools and enhance existing ones. We are looking for passionate, out-of-the-box thinkers who want to take pride in building, releasing, and supporting cloud and on-premise applications and appliances.

What you will do

  • Develop automation to reduce/remove manual operations (Python, Java, bash, ssh, Linux, git)
  • Improve robustness by adding metrics, monitoring, and automatic recovery (Icinga, DataDog, PagerDuty)
  • Rotate with other team members as first point-of-contact for helping other with tools and services (Jira, Confluence)
  • Add functionality to CI/CD pipelines (Bamboo, Jenkins, Bitbucket)
  • Work with the team using agile development processes (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Maintain/update deployments in cloud environments (Ansible, AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenStack, Kubernetes)
What makes you an ideal candidate

  • Strong programming experience of developing and testing in Python
  • Experience writing library level code and python packages
  • You are a good programmer that writes readable, testable, and maintainable code
  • Stong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems and computer networking
  • Experience writing code in an Object-Oriented programming paradigm
  • Strong Linux skills and have hands on experience to troubleshoot issues
  • Programmed in other common scripting languages (Ruby, Perl, JavaScript)
  • Knowledge of best practices for creating and consuming REST APIs
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
