Your role: Provide safe, direct patient care utilizing the nursing process in the ambulatory setting. You'll provide clinical leadership and mentorship to staff, and serve as a role model. You'll be responsible for the full range of patient education, and assume relief charge duties, when designated. Your skills will be utilized across all age groups from neonate to geriatric.

Your duties:

  • Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable
  • Assess patient's condition and nursing needs; set goals and utilize appropriate nursing actions to achieve goals
  • Provide and document nursing care
  • Ensure that physician's orders are carried out
  • Maintain equipment; monitor supply and medicine requisitions; maintain supply stock levels
  • Record and report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to medical staff
  • Administer medications and perform routine treatments
  • Assist physician with special tests, procedures and complex treatments
  • Participate in orientation and evaluation of new personnel
  • Coordinate patient care in conjunction with procedures by other UH departments and clinics
  • Institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Process data and generates reports; assist in the reception and discharge areas; handle patient calls and triage using documentation
  • Document lab cultures; ensure follow-up on abnormal results
  • Serve as a mentor to patients to promote self management, hope and empowerment
  • Provide education for patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and the use of prescriptive medical treatment
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Your qualifications:

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Current RN license in New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
  • CPR/BLS certification for healthcare professionals or professional rescuers within 30 days of hire
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish/Keres/Tewa/Tiwa/Towa/Zuni/Navajo) and 3 years of directly related experience preferred

Your physical requirements:

  • Heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work.

Your work environment: You may come into contact with chemicals and biohazardous materials that require personal protective equipment and safety protocols will be in place.
