For over 30 years, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) has been the leader in building transformative programs that raise the standard of care for all victims of child abuse, neglect, and sexual assault in Los Angeles County. Today, VIP functions as a public-private partnership between the publicly-funded VIP Children's Medical Village at the LAC+USC Medical Center and our non-profit, the VIP Community Mental Health Center, Inc. (VIP-CMHC). Our history of quality mental health care is due in large part to the dedicated and talented employees whose efforts have helped improve the lives of children, transitional age youth, and their families.
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Outpatient Care Services (OCS) are specialty mental health services provided to children/youth, ages 0-25 by professionals and paraprofessionals specially trained to recognize and respond to the unique biopsychosocial needs of children/youth.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Case Manager in the OCS Program is responsible for providing field-based case management services, linkage, resources, and rehabilitation services to clients and their caregivers currently receiving services in the RRR Program. Flexible work schedule may be required including evenings and/or weekends, based on program and/or client needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, OCS Program, the Case Manager is responsible for the following:
- Maintain all appropriate records including crisis intervention files and/or incident reports, clinical notes and other records
- Complete all required documentation in accordance with LA County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Agency regulations
- Plan and implement individual activities that encourage the client's social and emotional growth
- Interview clients individually or in families assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs.
- Serve as liaisons between students, homes, schools, family services, child guidance clinics, doctors, and other contacts to help children who face problems, such as disabilities, abuse, or poverty.
- Develop and review service plans in consultation with clients and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided.
- Counsel or aid family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting the client.
- Refer client or family to community resources, following through to ensure service efficacy.
- Educate clients or community members about mental or physical illness, abuse, medication, or available community resources.
- Assist clients in adhering to treatment plans, such as setting up appointments, arranging for transportation to appointments, or providing support.
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems, such as truancy and misbehavior, and to implement solutions.
- Refer clients to community resources for services, such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, or financial assistance, and provide concrete information, such as where to go and how to apply.
- Provide, find, or arrange for support services, such as child care, homemaker service, prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, job training, counseling, or parenting classes to prevent more serious problems from developing.
- Available (on rotation) for crisis support, via telephone, to clients 24/7 when therapist is unavailable
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree and two (2) years documented experience in a mental health setting;
- Bilingual Spanish/English required
- Ability to work collaboratively with members of inter-disciplinary teams; and ability to provide ongoing clinical consultation to DCFS and DMH
- Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to and competence in dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population
- Self-starter, independent case manager/rehab specialist with the ability to adapt to change in a fast working environment;
- Valid California drivers license, driving record and personal vehicle insurance acceptable to VIP's insurance carrier;
- Good written and verbal communication skills;
- The ability to relate effectively and professionally with children, supervisor, co-workers and staff;
- Well organized, detail oriented and skilled with time/task management, able to adapt to frequent changes
- Ability to work effectively within a multicultural team and agency.
- Working knowledge of community resources that address the special needs of the client base.
- Ability to model positive behaviors and Agency values.
- Ability to provide field-based work

Salary Description
$20 - $27/ hourly (Salary Range)
