This position is in Austin, Texas
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be mechanically proficient and have his/her own tools that are appropriate for this trade.
- Installs and maintains machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
- Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
- Level/ establish centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit.
- Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items, using portable gas heating equipment.
- Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site, usually performing installation and maintenance work as part of team.
- Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, grout and/ or steel.
- Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts, adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance and replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
- Ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencing.
- Comply with standards and procedures of MEI’s Health and Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
- Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when required
- Complete assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications.
- A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
- Complete required paperwork
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials
- Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability
- Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
- Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
- Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
- Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
- Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
- Align, level, and anchor machinery.
- Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
- Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.

- Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
- Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
- Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment — running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles.
- Controlling Machines and Processes — using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).
- High School Diploma
- Minimum three (3) years of Millwright experience or comparable field experience in the construction service industry.
- Valid Driver’s License
- OSHA 10 for Construction or OSHA 30 required.
- Use effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive environment and relationships.
- Contribute to the goals of the company.
- Be approachable, open-minded and strong sense of responsibility; passionate about work.
- Able to physically perform the work.
Job will require some time working in standard office environment including work at a computer terminal. Most time will be spent walking and coordinating in the field. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
