Summary

This position will be based in Alaska and will primarily be a 'Field Assignment Position.' This position will report to the corresponding superintendent or project manager. Position requires the ability to operate heavy construction equipment, such as excavators, dozers, compactors, wheel loaders, tractors, and forklifts, and to properly utilize general construction tools. Directly supervises and coordinates activities of field personnel and subcontractors during field activities and assists in general labor activities.

The pay rate for this position is the Local Union Rate. Out of state Union workers are invited to apply. Non-union workers are encouraged to apply; you will need to join the Union upon hire.

  • Carry out daily work activities in accordance with applicable Safety and Health rules for the job site.
  • Read and interpret specifications such as blueprints, drawings, and schedules to determine construction requirements and plan activities.
  • Review work tasks to be completed in advance to ensure and coordinate with the Superintendent or Project Manager to ensure adequate equipment, supplies, and tools are available for worksite personnel to complete their assigned tasks on time and on budget.
  • Monitor work progress and communicate to the onsite team anticipated delays or budgetary deviations.
  • Examine and inspect work progress and equipment on the construction site to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction workers.
  • Coordinate with the onsite team on locating, measuring, and marking site locations and placement of structures and equipment and identify possible conflicts.
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports.
  • Provide assistance to workers engaged in construction activities using hand tools and equipment.
  • Monitor the job site for hazards and maintain a safe working environment and take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Possess good communication skills as well as taking direction from staff.
  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, including eye contact with ground personnel, and recognize job site-specific hazards.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Supervises on-site operators, laborers, and subcontractors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of construction field experience with experience as a foreman/lead position.
  • Basic personnel management techniques in order to instruct site personnel on compliance with ACPPC's worksite safety and health plan.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a foreman/lead position
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Certification
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Knowledge of worksite safety and health regulations, OSHA guidelines, and basic personnel management techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures.

* Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications
Education High School Diploma/GED (required)
Experience 5 years: *High school graduate or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent.
