Overview

The Heavy Machinery Maintenance Specialist operates under limited supervision, executing complex tasks related to the repair and upkeep of heavy construction machinery; performs associated duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to directives from the assistant service manager and service manager in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure a tidy and organized workshop and service vehicle.
  • Participate in training sessions relevant to job requirements.
  • Manage the check-in and check-out processes for all rental machinery.
  • Timely completion of time cards and reports to facilitate accurate billing of work orders.
  • Submit parts requisitions and returns as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Travel as needed to troubleshoot and repair various types of equipment.
  • Diagnose and fix hydraulic and electrical systems on construction machinery.
  • Interpret parts and service manuals to recommend equipment repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair all aspects of heavy construction machinery in any condition and location.

Qualifications
  • Within the last 10 years:
    • Five years of experience and/or training in heavy machinery repair and maintenance
    • Or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Physical Demands

This role requires regular communication and listening. The position is physically demanding, necessitating standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items exceeding 50 pounds. Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Schedule:
  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday, weekend rotation
  • On call

Apprentice - Trainee position to become a Service Technician 1. Must be sponsored by a Service Technician.
  • Maintain cleanliness in shared areas and steam clean equipment for customers and rental fleet.
  • Assist Service Technicians as directed by the Shop Foreman.
  • Organize and manage the Company Tool Room.
  • Complete assigned online training courses from manufacturers.
  • Perform small tool repairs.
Service Technician 1 - Trainee position to advance to Service Technician 2.
  • Over 5 years of heavy machinery experience or 3 years in the Apprentice Program
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Diesel engines
    • Manufacturer software proficiency
  • Field and shop customer repairs
  • Attend instructor-led classes as assigned
Service Technician 2 - Individual who surpasses Service Technician 1 standards and specializes in a specific manufacturer's elite training program.
  • 7 years of heavy machinery experience.
  • 2 years of consecutive training in a Volvo or other manufacturer's program
  • Complete assigned online training courses from manufacturers
  • Exhibit exceptional technical skills, positive attitude, and responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Mentor an Apprentice
Service Technician 3 - Individual who exceeds Service Technician 2 standards and specializes in multiple product lines serviced by CMI.
  • 10 years of heavy machinery experience.
  • Can serve as Assistant Service Manager when required.
  • Exhibits excellence in troubleshooting and assisting others.
  • Proficient in at least three product lines and capable of repairing all aspects of those products.
  • Willing to work out of branch for extended periods.
  • Demonstrates exceptional technical skills, positive attitude, and professionalism in addressing customer needs.
  • Complete assigned online training courses from manufacturers
  • Mentor an Apprentice or Technician 1 annually as assigned
