How You Will Make An Impact
The Head of Merchandising will be responsible for shaping and driving the merchandising strategy for ThredUp. This role involves overseeing product curation, pricing, acceptance and visualization strategies to ensure we're leveraging the millions of items in our inventory to meet the needs of every customer. The ideal candidate is obsessed with the landscape of fashion, and is eager to join a team where the merchandising strategy spans from customers shopping every brand from Gap to Gucci. In This Role You'll Get To:
Merchandising Strategy and Planning:
- Drive all visual merchandising across the site, ensuring we are relevant, on-trend where needed, and customer-obsessed. Make sure we are telling fresh stories each week with our ever-changing assortment.
- Analyze fashion trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities in product assortment and display.
- Be a relentless voice for upleveling how our merchandising and brand shows up for the customer. We are not a fashion brand, but we do sell fashion. Partner with the Marketing, Brand, Creative teams to tell compelling merchandising stories.
- Develop a clear point of view on how our AI tooling needs to evolve to help us empower creators to share the ThredUp story and their merchandise point of view broadly.
- Obsess over all customer experience touchpoints (homepage, product pages, etc.) by enhancing merchandising. Collaborate with the product team on a shared merchandising vision.
- Drive the sourcing plan to make sure we know exactly how many items we want to source across the categories we want and the timing therein. Work closely with the supply team on how to communicate this to customers and the timeline required.
- Ensure the assortment is well-curated, with a focus on quality, trend alignment, and customer demand.
- Develop and execute pricing strategies that maximize revenue and profitability while optimizing competitive positioning.
- Partner with the Revenue and Product teams to achieve well-executed promotional activities, including seasonal campaigns, sales events, and new customer offers.
- Analyze the effectiveness of pricing and promotional strategies, making adjustments as necessary to optimize performance.
- Understand the unit economics in great detail by category, brand, season and sell-thru so that we are able to grow the right selection of product to superior economics and value to the customer over time.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sales, inventory, and profitability, providing regular reports and insights to senior management.
- Utilize data analytics to drive decision-making and optimize merchandising strategies.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or category management, within the e-commerce or retail industry.
- Passionate about fashion circularity with a desire to visually merchandise a broad range of fashion brands with current trends at the forefront.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful merchandising strategies.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
