Position Objective:

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department, where you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective healthcare. You will provide direct and indirect patient care and collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

1. Clinical Decision Making/Judgment:

  • Utilize your clinical nursing knowledge and skills effectively in the specialized care of our patients.
  • Apply the nursing process to deliver culturally competent care, adhering to relevant laws, policies, and evidence-based practices.
  • Prioritize and organize patient care activities dynamically based on environmental changes.
  • Thoroughly assess patients to gather data and identify their unique learning needs according to established standards.
  • Develop individualized problem lists for your assigned patients through a systematic analysis of assessment data.
  • Create personalized care plans that prioritize identified problems and mutual goals.
  • Implement care plans proficiently in alignment with established standards and policies.
  • Master medication administration, pain management, and other unit-specific skills.
  • Continuously evaluate and revise care plans based on patient responses and outcomes.

2. Nurse-Patient Family Relationships:

  • Assess patients’ and families’ learning needs and readiness to learn while identifying potential barriers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate tailored teaching plans for patients and families.
  • Utilize your knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan in patient care.
  • Deliver care to patients and families in a manner that is culturally, ethically, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Ensure that care plans address the holistic needs of patients and their families.

3. Clinical Scholarship:

  • Engage in quality improvement, clinical process improvement, and risk management activities at all levels.
  • Strive for excellence in meeting AAMC’s quality standards through effective process improvement.
  • Support evidence-based guidelines and organizational protocols for safe patient care environments.

4. Clinical Leadership:

  • Take part in shared governance according to departmental principles.
  • Contribute to the onboarding and education of new staff members.
  • Delegate appropriate patient care activities and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Utilize real-time computer documentation in patient record management.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Compliance with AAMC’s credentialing requirements as outlined in nursing bylaws.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • ACLS certification required within one year of hire.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

Employees in this role may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands: Medium work. This includes occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force, frequently exerting up to 30 pounds, and constantly exerting up to 10 pounds to move objects.
