Position Objective:

Join our dedicated team in providing exceptional, cost-effective healthcare as a Night Staff Nurse in the Oncology Unit. You will play a crucial role in delivering direct and indirect patient care while collaborating with a dedicated healthcare team to enhance patient outcomes.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Clinical Decision Making/Judgment

  • Utilize your clinical nursing knowledge and skills specific to oncology.
  • Effectively apply the nursing process for diverse patients and families while adhering to laws, policies, and evidence-based practices.
  • Prioritize patient care activities by assessing changes in patient conditions.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to identify patient needs and learning preferences.
  • Develop individualized care plans that address patients' unique needs.
  • Implement and manage the plan of care based on established standards and guidelines.
  • Exhibit proficiencies in medication administration and pain management.
  • Evaluate and adjust care plans according to patient responses.

2. Nurse-Patient Family Relationships

  • Assess and address patients' and families' learning needs and barriers.
  • Create tailored teaching plans according to patient populations.
  • Provide compassionate care that considers cultural, developmental, and ethical aspects.
  • Address physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs in care plans.

3. Clinical Scholarship

  • Engage in quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
  • Work towards excellence in meeting organizational quality benchmarks.
  • Promote safe patient care through adherence to evidence-based practices.

4. Clinical Leadership

  • Participate in unit governance and contribute to a collaborative environment.
  • Assist in the orientation and education of new staff members.
  • Delegate care activities appropriately and evaluate outcomes effectively.
  • Utilize real-time electronic documentation for patient records.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Compliance with AAMC's credentialing requirements as detailed in nursing bylaws.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Current Maryland Registered Nurse licensure.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Chemotherapy/Brachytherapy Certification within 6 months for experienced nurses or within 1 year for new graduates.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

Expect potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens in this role.

Physical Demands: Medium work. Often lifting up to 50 lbs, frequently 30 lbs, and constantly lifting up to 10 lbs.
