Position Objective:

1. Clinical Decision Making/Judgment

  • Utilize your clinical nursing expertise in a specialized unit.
  • Effectively apply the nursing process in providing care to a diverse patient population while adhering to legal, policy, and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Organize and adapt patient care activities based on changing needs.
  • Consistently assess patients comprehensively to identify their needs and learning preferences.
  • Conduct thorough data analyses to create personalized problem lists for your patients.
  • Develop individualized care plans that prioritize patient needs and involve family input.
  • Implement care plans efficiently while following established guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in medication administration, pain management, and unit-specific skills.
  • Continuously evaluate care plans, adjusting as necessary based on patient responses.

2. Nurse-Patient Family Relationships

  • Assess and address the educational needs of patients and families, considering cultural and individual learning styles.
  • Effectively create, implement, and evaluate educational plans in line with unit standards.
  • Utilize knowledge of growth and development to provide holistic care across all age groups.
  • Deliver direct patient care with respect for cultural, developmental, and ethical considerations.
  • Ensure care plans cover physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of patients and their families.

3. Clinical Scholarship

  • Participate in quality improvement, continuous process improvement, and risk management initiatives.
  • Contribute to achieving excellence by following AAMC’s quality standards and benchmarks.
  • Support evidence-based guidelines and organizational policies to enhance patient safety.

4. Clinical Leadership

  • Engage in unit governance per departmental standards.
  • Take part in the training and orientation of new staff members.
  • Delegate patient care tasks prudently and evaluate their outcomes.
  • Utilize real-time computer documentation for efficient patient record management.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
  • Meet AAMC credentialing criteria as per nursing bylaws.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Current Maryland Board of Nursing RN licensure.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification required within one year of hire.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

Be prepared to work in an environment that may involve exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands: Medium work. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
