Medical Records Specialist

Description I. General Purpose of the Job Appropriately and accurately processes document scanning of medical record components into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Processes requests for charts to be pulled for patient care, quality review, and audits in a timely manner. I. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Scan and electronically index paperwork into the EHR Appropriately and accurately pulls records for patient care, quality review, and audits in a timely Observe confidentiality and safeguards all patient related Process requests for the release of medical information to insurance companies, lawyers, state, and federal agencies as needed. Process release of records for subpoenas and court Verify authorizations in accordance with clinic policy and procedures; as well as state and federal laws. Able to retrieve files from the appropriate sources Maintain a good working relationship within the department and other Provide excellent customer service Other duties as assigned II. Previous experience working in a medical records department preferred. V. Necessary Skills & Abilities Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word), as well as Practice Management and Electronic Medical Record software – (eClinicalWorks a plus). VI. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
