Job Description

The Philanthropies Department (PHI) helps to invite individuals and families to follow the example of the Lord, Jesus Christ, as they live the two great commandments to love God and their neighbors. Giving helps members and others experience the joy and blessings of participating in God's work as they choose to follow inspiration and prophetic direction. To do this, PHI facilitates and invites voluntary philanthropic giving (beyond tithes and fast offering) for programs and projects approved by the First Presidency. PHI teaches, engages, coordinates, invites, and reports regarding voluntary philanthropic contributions to the Church and its affiliated charities. PHI provides shared donor and philanthropic support to all Church-affiliated entities.

Philanthropies correlates, encourages, invites, facilitates, and acknowledges voluntary philanthropic contributions to the church and its affiliated charities. To do this, Donor Liaison, Major Gift employees will seek and invite voluntary philanthropic funding (beyond tithes and offerings) for programs and projects approved by the First Presidency. Major Gift donor liaisons will obtain philanthropic contributions for Church programs and projects and will identify potential donors, develop and carry out initiatives leading to long term relationships.

This job serves in the role of providing exceptional customer relationship management, stewardship, and support for people who choose to make major gift level contributions ($25k+) and invite a personal relationship.

The Donor Liaison, Major Gifts role is an intermediate role where employees use their professional experience and expertise to help create an engaging environment in order to facilitate inspired giving experiences for all involved. The clients served include prospects, donors, institutional leaders, and Philanthropies colleagues. The expectation is to facilitate, engage, invite, and create an exceptional giving experience that reflects the standard of the Kingdom of God.

This role is a senior-level individual contributor.

Hiring Schedule:

SparkHire interviews will be sent for completion between 9/16-9/18.

In-Person interviews will be scheduled on 9/25.

Final Interview will be on 10/1.

This position has a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

Typically, Donor Liaisons, Major Gifts will spend (15%) Teaching, (25%) Engaging, (20%) Coordinating, (15%) Inviting, and (25%) Reporting in support of strategic coordination and invitations to participate in inspired giving experiences.

In alignment with the core responsibilities at PHI to Teach, Engage, Coordinate, Invite, and Report, this position's responsibilities are aligned as follows:

Donor Liaison, Major Gifts

Teach (15%):

1.Teach the process of philanthropy in the Church to donors and prospects, as defined by a geographic area, and with emphasis for those donors who are capable of giving at the identified major gift level (e.g. $25k+), master case statement details for approved priorities and projects

Engage (25%)
  1. Develop and maintain a portfolio of major gift donors according to geographic assignment, by helping donors engage in meaningful philanthropic activities and developing relationships of trust based upon professionalism and content knowledge of philanthropy
Coordinate (20%)
  1. Correlate with colleagues and institutional partners, assuring a prospect's data and historical interaction file is accurate and complete, and ensuring contact reports and strategic initiatives with donors and professionals is timely;
Invite (15%)
  1. This position focuses on building a portfolio of relationships for a geographic area and in cultivating, inviting, and stewarding donors. Successful Major Gift Donor Liaisons will recognize an interest and willingness by donors to act upon an invitation to consider making a gift (right time, amount, project);
Reporting (25%)
  1. Return and report on the impact of gifts made (typically within a calendar year for gifts made in 12-month period). Accountability for individual performance dashboard review and reporting to donor liaison manager, including wise stewardship of budget and travel resources.


Qualifications

Required:
  • A Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of compatible professional experience, or any combination of equivalent education and/or relavant experience
  • A demonstrated ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service and ability to keep confidences
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, innovative thinking, and proven capacity to be self-motivated while positively inviting others to strive for their best performance
  • Professional in demeanor, appearance and language, with English verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to provide appropriate direction and receive and act upon feedback in a timely manner
  • The ability to operate a personal computer in a network environment, proficiency with basic computer hardware/software, including the ability to use and learn job specific applications
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills including a proven ability to follow-through with fine details
  • Nimble with change, versatile, and an optimism with a willingness to collaborate within and across teams
  • Professional, persistent, patient, and respectful demeanor and ability to maintain positivity despite differences of opinion or perspective
  • Must uphold and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Church and its affiliated charities, be ethical, and demonstrate professional demeanor at all times and in all situations.
  • This job typically operates in a professional office environment, yet also requires an ability to travel and interact with individuals in a variety of locations requiring ability to use various forms of public and private transportation, and work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Must successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements that need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time, constantly operating a computer, and using computer monitors and other office equipment, as well as filing. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Preferred:
  • Advanced degree (e.g. MBA, MPA, etc.) and direct experience in front-line fundraising
