Cloud Systems Engineer

Overview:
BlueHalo is seeking a Satellite Cloud Systems Engineer/Administrator to support the implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of AWS Cloud-based systems. This role involves testing, accrediting, and documenting satellite ground systems within the cloud environment. Key responsibilities include building and optimizing the cloud infrastructure, integrating software, supporting system integration testing, ensuring cybersecurity compliance for accreditation, managing configurations, and collaborating with external mission partners. The position primarily supports government programs, with occasional involvement in commercial projects. The successful candidate will work alongside BlueHalo team members, subcontractors, associate contractors, and end-customer teams.
Responsibilities:
- Provide IT systems support, including day-to-day operations, monitoring, and issue resolution for client/server/storage/network devices.
- Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure to ensure security, scalability (with redundancy), and cost-efficiency.
- Automate cloud processes and manage infrastructure using AWS best practices and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Develop and deploy AWS microservices with an emphasis on containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to AWS environments and deployments.
- Implement strategies for performance optimization and ensure the scalability of cloud systems.
- Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to streamline deployment processes and enhance operational efficiency.
- Work closely with IA/Cybersecurity teams to evaluate and mitigate security risks, monitor vulnerability alerts (IAVAs), perform security scanning, and apply STIG scripts, patches, and updates.
- Prioritize and manage operational environment assessments and facilitate user participation in test and evaluation activities.
- Participate in mission/operation readiness reviews.
- Establish and enforce data and configuration management practices with an emphasis on cybersecurity, in collaboration with system administrators, network engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Active AWS-specific certification (Associate or Professional level).
- Deep understanding of AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, VPC, CloudFormation, etc.) and the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI).
- Familiarity with AWS GovCloud or other government cloud environments.
- Proven experience managing and optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Expertise in AWS microservices architecture and deployment.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure management tools (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Terraform).
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in AWS environments.
- Ability to optimize cloud resources for cost-efficiency and performance.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts such as VPNs, load balancers, and firewalls.
- Experience with systems administration (Linux/Windows).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity protocols, compliance, and risk management frameworks (RMF).
- Experience supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) packages.
- Familiarity with systems engineering processes, including system integration, segment testing, and end-to-end testing.
- Experience working in an Agile, collaborative team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to a team.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional
- AWS Certified Developer - Associate
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate
- AWS Certified Security - Specialty (highly desirable for cybersecurity-focused roles)
- Security+ Certifications
- TS and SCI eligibility or equivalent
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an Associate's Degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
