Position Title: Physician Substitute (EMT/Paramedic)
Location: St. Petersburg, FL. Business Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, Sat 7am-3pm
Pay Range: $22-$25 per hour based on experience
Required Work Schedule: Saturdays and 4 other days through the week totaling 40 hours per week / 8 hour shifts

Job Summary

Freedom Plasma is seeking a dedicated EMT or Paramedic to join our team in St. Petersburg, FL. as a Physician Substitute. This non-traditional EMS position involves conducting donor medical evaluations, determining donor suitability, and managing donor adverse events. Only candidates with a FLORIDA state-issued EMT or Paramedic license will be considered. We cannot accept NREMT certifications for this position.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Greet and register new plasma donors into the donor management system
  • Conduct screening procedures including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and arm checks
  • Perform finger sticks for hematocrit and total protein testing
  • Determine donor eligibility through medical history interviews and physical examinations
  • Educate donors on testing, donation risks, and informed consent
  • Provide counseling for donors regarding unacceptable test results
  • Initiate and assist in donor investigations for post-donation information
  • Evaluate and attend to donor adverse events during the donation process
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, communicating with the Center Medical Director as necessary
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, and cGMP
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one year of work experience preferred
  • Actively licensed in Florida as an EMT or Paramedic (state-issued license only)
  • CPR certification required
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and manage deadlines efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements
  • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knee
  • Ability to sit for extended periods for up to four hours at a time
  • Ability to lift, tug, and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
