Emergency Medical Technician Position Overview:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for delivering essential patient care and executing specialized medical procedures. The EMT is skilled in operating and maintaining medical equipment, adhering to aseptic techniques, and performing various clinical tasks including specimen collection.

Key Responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician:
  • Provides direct patient care in the Emergency Center for individuals experiencing a range of medical emergencies
  • Acts as a vital team member during the resuscitation efforts for trauma and critically ill patients
  • Employs analytical skills to facilitate communication between paramedics and nursing or medical staff regarding patient assessments
  • Identifies and addresses situations that may jeopardize patient safety within the established Scope of Practice
  • Delivers expert care to pediatric patients by gathering necessary data, documenting interventions, and executing treatments under the supervision of registered nurses
  • Performs essential medical procedures such as IV therapy, blood draws, EKGs, and point-of-care testing
  • Assists with orthopedic care by providing immobilization and splinting for injured patients
  • Ensures the availability of necessary medical supplies to support efficient patient care
  • Contributes to the daily operations of the Emergency Center by assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
  • Participates in routine departmental tasks including equipment checks, documentation, and emergency medical procedures
  • Complies with all safety protocols, disaster preparedness plans, infection control measures, and regulations regarding hazardous materials
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives and safety projects within the department and hospital
Work Schedule: Evening shifts, 36 hours per week, weekend availability required

Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Qualifications for the Emergency Medical Technician:
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent educational achievement
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute healthcare or prehospital environment with direct patient interaction
  • Valid EMT certification in the State of Florida is mandatory
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS certification must be obtained within one year of employment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
