Key Responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician:
- Provides direct patient care in the Emergency Center for individuals experiencing a range of medical emergencies
- Acts as a vital team member during the resuscitation efforts for trauma and critically ill patients
- Employs analytical skills to facilitate communication between paramedics and nursing or medical staff regarding patient assessments
- Identifies and addresses situations that may jeopardize patient safety within the established Scope of Practice
- Delivers expert care to pediatric patients by gathering necessary data, documenting interventions, and executing treatments under the supervision of registered nurses
- Performs essential medical procedures such as IV therapy, blood draws, EKGs, and point-of-care testing
- Assists with orthopedic care by providing immobilization and splinting for injured patients
- Ensures the availability of necessary medical supplies to support efficient patient care
- Contributes to the daily operations of the Emergency Center by assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Participates in routine departmental tasks including equipment checks, documentation, and emergency medical procedures
- Complies with all safety protocols, disaster preparedness plans, infection control measures, and regulations regarding hazardous materials
- Engages in quality improvement initiatives and safety projects within the department and hospital
Location: St. Petersburg, FL
Qualifications for the Emergency Medical Technician:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent educational achievement
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute healthcare or prehospital environment with direct patient interaction
- Valid EMT certification in the State of Florida is mandatory
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS certification must be obtained within one year of employment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
