Introduction

This is responsible database administration and systems analysis work.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing a variety of technical database and systems analysis tasks of more than average difficulty. Employees participate in the work of technical project team members in the completion of specified assignments. Tasks include the design, development or modification, testing, and implementation of database systems, and related support procedures. Tasks require that the employees consult with user personnel, functional data processing personnel, and other project team members to resolve technical questions. While working under supervision, employees are encouraged to demonstrate initiative and exercise independent judgment within the scope of assigned tasks. An employee in this class may be subject to on-call status on a rotating basis to provide 24-hour/7 day service. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through discussions and submitted reports.

Examples of Duties

Assists in the development and modification of database systems based on specifications; follows guidelines to execute production changes and jobs; prepares database and production scheduled job specifications from provided functional and technical designs; contributes to technical system design with guidance; supports the creation or modification of documentation for applications and production application execution adhering to standards.

Participates in the design and implementation of data conversion processes using industry-standard methodologies for extracting, transforming, and loading data from source to target databases; contributes to test data preparation and system result verification; collaborates with team members (both technical and functional) to address questions or problems, assists in analyzing and resolving system problems.

Engages in training programs to acquire and enhance skills; supports in the delivery of user training programs and conducts training for individual staff as needed. Assists in analyzing problems and implementing solutions; collaborates with team members, users, and technical project team members on technical questions; supports in coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring the work of technical project team members.

Supports system conversion efforts and executes necessary tasks; evaluates and recommends vendor software; assists in upgrades/installations.

Supports coordination of system/disaster recovery efforts and performs tasks related to recovery requirements, documentation, testing, and resolves restoration problems.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) including with SSIS deployment and management All SQL Server versions in Microsoft mainstream or extended support; data analysis techniques, SQL Server clustering, database systems within virtual environments; understanding of relational database design; understanding of data warehouse concepts.

Ability to: implement/maintain/support databases; analysis/needs assessments for database related requests; support ETL scheduled processes and development; perform production change control; troubleshoot database/ server/storage issues.

Physical Requirements

Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing monitor.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and two (2) years of experience in business systems (analyzing data and manual systems for data processing application). Or an equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid driver's license may be required.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
