The OT works under general supervision and requires considerable knowledge of occupational therapy to conduct assessments/evaluations which may include fine motor and functional skills. Develops treatment plans, documents treatments rendered and provides guidance to professional and support staff. Lifts, positions, and moves students in a safe manner using proper lifting techniques; evaluates learning and performance skills, and adaptive activities; conducts test to make initial assessment of students' fine motor, oral motor, self-help skills and vocational skills; designs, constructs and modifies adaptive equipment to assist students in activities of daily living, vocational activities (in classroom and community), sensory activities, sensory motor, and behavioral areas (e.g., splints, braces, modified shoes, eating utensils); instructs and assists students in use of adaptive equipment (e.g., wheelchairs and accessories); Coordinates student goals with the team. Participates in development of IEP goals where occupational therapy is recommended; attends staff meetings to summarize occupational therapy treatment and assessment needs; writes, evaluates, and updates IEP goals; develops, implements and monitors individualized treatment plans, both general and specific to develop students' skills and abilities; prepares periodic and annual progress reports; supervises assigned staff in use of adaptive equipment and delivery of services; records and reviews reports of treatment services provided to students; develops and/or conducts programs to provide indirect therapy services (e.g., sensory stimulation programs); researches and secures adaptive equipment and devices; serves on school-related committees as required or deemed necessary; inventories, requisitions, and maintains needed equipment and supplies. Provides instruction and training to staff and families/caregivers to support treatment plans; instructs staff and families/caregivers in techniques of handling, positioning, instructs and trains staff and families/caregivers in use and application of adaptive equipment; conducts home visits as necessary; conducts onsite program visits to reassess usefulness and therapeutic value of adaptive equipment; works cooperatively, parents/caregivers, caseworkers, medical personnel, specialist, etc. to achieve student goals and programming as identified by IEP. May administer oral and topical medication(s) to students, after receiving appropriate training, and when delegated by a Registered Nurse employed by the Board. Develops and demonstrates knowledge of current developments in field to provide most beneficial client care. May be required to transport individuals in an agency vehicle; if transporting individuals, is required to have valid CPR/First Aid and meet requirements of Board's Transportation policy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current State of Ohio licensure as an OT; must also have Professional Pupil Services License issued by ODE. Must be physically able to lift, carry, and position children in a safe manner, perform crisis interventions. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, Registry check as required by law, and post-offer/pre-employment physical exam with drug testing and agility test.
SALARY: $40.21 - $44.23 per hour
