Description

Senior Associate Director, Scientific Grants will oversee and manage the day-to-day function of a specific portfolio within the International Research Grant Program and the strategic grants funding program. This includes oversight of staff, the development and implementation of core and standalone requests for applications within their portfolio oversee and lead the peer-review process for their programs and moderate the review panel discussions. In addition, this person will be responsible for providing management of the process for grant agreement negotiation and review for funded awards.

Working with the Vice President, Medical and Scientific Operations and the Scientific Engagement Team, this position will also serve as a communicator with internal and external audiences of grant-related activity, including serving on panels, providing educational sessions about the Association's funding.

Responsibilities:

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage a portfolio within the Medical & Scientific Grant Department team and manage staff within the team (i.e.Grants Specialists).
  • Oversee and lead the peer-review process for letters of intent and grant applications. Oversee the generation of reports on demographics of grant program, applicants and reviewers throughout the year.
  • Identify, develop, implement and manage on-going evaluation program, with the support of Grants Team, to ensure Medical & Scientific grant-funding strategies can be measured for successes and areas of potential improvement in an ongoing basis.
  • Manage review process for all scientific and financial grant reporting for grants within their portfolio, as well as the review process for translated abstracts, pending grant summaries and yearly reports provided to Relationship Development, including their review, and provide assistance as needed to support Relationship Development.
  • Provide leadership of the Alzheimer's Association partnership in the International Alzheimer's and Related Dementia Research Portfolio and Health Research Alliance grants tracking systems.
  • Work cross divisionally with legal, finance and development to oversee the necessary reporting and data capture related to grant agreements, grant payments and related financial tracking.
  • Identifying opportunities to implement methodological approaches that support program evaluation systems and reporting processes across all Association funding programs.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in neuroscience or related field with expertise in neurodegeneration; preference for candidates with experience in drug discovery, drug development or clinical trial planning or implementation.
  • 2-3 years of related experience required.
  • 3+ years of related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple simultaneous priorities and provide leadership to diverse staff.
  • Proficient at engaging in and managing complex relationships with external and internal teams, inclusive of collaborative external funding partners, cross divisional partners, peer-reviewers and past/ active awardees and applicants to navigate and deliver scientific products.
  • Proficient communication strategies, inclusive of using technological resources to create and deliver information to scientific and non-scientific audiences, and to prepare and deliver information to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of designing and managing methodological approaches that support program evaluation systems and reporting processes.
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%
