Job title Counselor II FLSA Class: Non-Exempt
Department Behavioral Health Position Type: Full Time
Job purpose
Provide individual, group and/or family therapy to clients and/or family. Provide clinical
assessment, field-based and outreach services to clients and their families; case
management and advocacy services.
Duties and responsibilities
• Conduct strengths-based, family-centered, culturally competent therapeutic
services, consisting of individual, family and group therapy as well as individualized
intakes and/or other assessments in the office or in the field as appropriate.
• Assess and monitor client and/or family progress; evaluate outcomes and
collaborate to adjust course of treatment as appropriate.
• Communicate and collaborate services with Department of Children and Family
services and other members of the Multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide services in the community or in the field consistent with program and
funding source contractual requirements.
• Maintain a client file to level of requirements mandated in agency policy and
completes documentation in a timely manner.
• Display sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic needs of the clients and families
served.
• Interact well with other internal programs, clinical/support staff and with external
sources such as school or community personnel as applicable.
• Meet Agency requirements regarding billing for reimbursable services; consistently
provide services in keeping with all programmatic and contractual requirements.
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings to provide input towards program
development and staff training.
• Participate in outreach and community related efforts in collaboration with the BHD
Prevention team.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Master's or Doctorate Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or
Psychology.

• Must be licensed-eligible, i.e., board-registered MFT-Intern, ASW, MSW, OR Licensed
professional: LMFT, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist. Must maintain licensure as a
condition of employment.
• Post graduate and 1-2 years' experience with adolescents and their families,
including experience in assessment, referral, group, individual, couples, and family
therapies.
• Knowledge of principles and techniques of social, cultural, and intergenerational
dynamics of Chinese/Asian immigrants and refugees.
• Ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships with children, youth,
and families.
• Bilingual/bicultural English and Chinese required (Cantonese and/or Mandarin).
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an insurable driving
record.
• Available to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
• Ability to pass health, fingerprint, and DMV clearance.
