Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer – Journeyman to support product development, sustainment, integration and modernization for Department of Homeland Security equipment used at border crossings and airports. This position is located in Sterling, VA .

In this position, the successful candidate will:

  • Performs systems engineering research and analysis.

  • Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures.

  • Plans, develops, designs, and manages holistic systems solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Tailors and applies systems engineering techniques and processes to meet project objectives within constraints.

  • Balances systems thinking and systems engineering best practices over the full range of technology maturity levels.

  • Analyzes requirements and system performance.

  • Applies systems engineering expertise to define cost/benefit and risk/opportunity, develop and analyze alternatives, support decisions, and mitigate risks.

  • Ensures all project or system aspects are considered in totality and integrated.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assignments of moderate complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data and preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for analysis of requirements and systems performance.

  • Interprets, compiles and analyzes data collected and writes various technical reports.

  • Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.

  • Follows safety, security, quality, configuration management and operating policies and procedures.

  • Provides troubleshooting and solutions for escalated field maintenance and sustaining engineering issues.

  • Participates in, reviews and prepares material for design reviews, interface documents, requirements documents to ensure product will meet customer requirements.

  • Supports planning and execution of test activities.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2 years of experience or master’s degree in related field; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.

  • Candidates should be highly motivated self-starters with a strong desire to learn.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret Clearance and DHS Suitability.

  • Must be US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies: License Plate Reader (LPR), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, digital signage, kiosks, biometrics, mobile technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, Wireless communications, imaging systems, camera analytics, non-intrusive inspection equipment.

  • Agile development process.

  • Experience with DHS clients, systems, and screening processes.

  • Active Secret Clearance.

  • Active DHS or CBP Suitability.
