Under the direction of the VP, Programs and Advancement this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The incumbent serves as a member of the advancement team, providing strategic fundraising, member, and donor engagement efforts to advance the YMCA’s mission. The Director is responsible for the Association’s Annual and Capital Campaigns & Special Events, working to ensure a culture of philanthropy is present year-round.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Five or more years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another non-profit.
  • Annual and Capital campaign experience required.
  • Proficiency with a fundraising database and reporting
  • Ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  • Member of our service area with extensive knowledge of community preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written communication.


Essential Functions

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN:

Oversees and propels the Annual Campaign, creates an annual campaign strategy for the Y in collaboration with Executive and Volunteer leadership.

Collaborates and supports the Community Engagement Manager to increase our community partnerships to grow our member/volunteer/donor engagement to support funding for new and ongoing initiatives.

Recruits, onboards, and develops volunteers from diverse backgrounds and develops an effective, comprehensive annual campaign program working closely with Executive leadership.

Recruits, establishes, and supports teams of campaign staff and volunteers.

Collaborates with the Marketing team to develop communication and campaign strategies to successfully market the annual and capital campaigns.

Leads the Association in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual fund prospects. Creates and implements a training program for all staff and volunteers to engage donors and solicit gifts, expressly focusing on increasing our members to donors significantly.

Establishes systems for timely and appropriate acknowledgements of campaign gifts.

Generates new fundraising efforts in which the Y can grow its visibility, build relationships, and secure contributions from a continually growing number of donors.

With the Director of Major Gifts & Stewardship, completes major donor research, producing recommendations and strategies for action, and coordinating a moves-management plan for all major donors.

The incumbent will work closely with the Board of Directors and support Board Members in their fundraising roles. The incumbent is responsible for systematically and effectively strengthening the organization’s overall fundraising capacity to assure it continues on its current path to increase annual giving by 10% per year and executing successful capital campaigns.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Leads the organization and is responsible for the planning, project management, working with volunteer committee(s) and event execution of the Y’s current annual Events, and developing new, innovative events.

Works with Y leadership and staff to identify and recruit volunteers for special event Committees.

Supervises and manages other external and internal events as needed.

DONOR MANAGEMENT

Responsible for overseeing gift accounting, including accurately recording, tracking, and managing donations received by the organization. Ensures compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements and maintains transparent and accurate financial records related to gifts and donations.

Shares responsibility for managing the Donor database and serves as a knowledge and functional expert.

Develops and manages a portfolio of prospects.

Initiate contact and meet with existing and potential donors.

Develops cultivation strategies for prospects; engage staff, Board, or other organizational supporters as appropriate.

Moves potential donors toward solicitation and closure.

Works with Marketing and Communications to produce materials and tools to communicate regularly with donors, supporters, and potential allies.

Identifies opportunities to network with donors and prospects and engage members of the staff and board as appropriate to make the most of those opportunities.

Maintains consistent quality communications with donors in coordination with the staff and the Board.

Ensures quality communications follows all gifts to provide thanks and documentation to donors.

In partnership with the Director, Major Gifts & Stewardship, identifies and implements opportunities for donor recognition, stewardship, and appreciation.

ORGANIZATION-WIDE SUPPORT/COLLABORATION

Interacts with a positive attitude with participants, members, parents, and staff.

Performs as an integral member of the Family Center staff team, working toward an increase in member growth, satisfaction and retention and program expansion.

Participates in YMCA community events.

Handles unexpected situations/emergencies in an efficient, professional manner, complete incident reports following every qualifying incident.

Actively participates in staff meetings and trainings.

Assists with other duties as assigned.
