Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of South County is seeking an ER Veterinary Assistant to join our amazing team

The ER Veterinary Assistant performs a vital role in our practice, assisting the Technicians in providing supportive patient care. Candidate must have a compassionate, caring and understanding attitude. Job responsibilities include the following.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Assist and follow the directions of Technicians, Supervisors and Doctors.
  • Safely retrain patients for examination, procedures and ultrasounds.
  • Properly disconnect/reconnect patients from intravenous fluids.
  • Be familiar with fluid pumps and troubleshooting alarms.
  • Assist in setting up radiographs using proper safety precautions.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests such as a CBC/CHEM/Lytes and PCV's.
  • Keep all areas, including reception, exam rooms, treatment sinks, floors, cages, etc. clean.
  • Assist with some reception work when needed.
  • Complete training and continuing education assignments on schedule.
  • Required shifts may be scheduled on nights, weekends, and holidays. You may be required to work beyond regularly scheduled shifts at times due to an unexpectedly heavy emergency caseload.


Experience & Technical skills:

* Animal restraint experience.

* Veterinary experience 6 mo. to 1 year.

* Ability to multi-task and work well with others.

* Accountable

* Self-motivated.

* Detail-oriented.

* Able to remain calm in stressful situations.

* Be capable of working on your feet for extended periods of time.

Hourly Wage: $18-$19/hour depending on experience and skillset.

Schedule: Full time - Must have a weekend day availability. The ability to work mornings and swing shifts is a plus.
