Position Overview:

Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded General Contractor based in Central Florida, is a dynamic and growing company seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will play a crucial role in managing our accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. You will also work closely with operations to align financial processes with business needs and play an integral part in leading the team toward continuous improvement, optimizing efficiency, and driving operational excellence.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Controller with overseeing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger transactions.
  • Manage project accounting, including AIA owner billing, ensuring accuracy, compliance with contractual terms, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Coordinate and manage internal and external job audits, ensuring full compliance and readiness, while maximizing billings, cost savings, and efficiency.
  • Drive process improvements and workflow efficiencies within the accounting department, ensuring best practices are implemented and maintained.
  • Supports and drives utilization of Wharton-Smith's initiatives and technology systems.
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to senior leadership, supporting strategic business decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to improve financial reporting accuracy and process alignment.
  • Evaluate and enhance the ROI on key accounting projects and initiatives, ensuring the team contributes to broader business goals.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, development, and continuous improvement.
Experience/Skills:
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • CCIFP and/or CPA certification is a plus
  • We would prefer candidates with 7 years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a managerial role, but it is not required.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
