General Statement of Job
  • Serves as the key digital learning and library media program specialist. This position combines the roles of an Instructional Technology Facilitator and School Library Media Coordinator to produce a curriculum leadership role, whereby the position directly impacts student achievement through digital teaching and learning, and media initiatives in the school building, and district, as needed.
Essential Job Functions

Plans and Facilitates Media and Library Programing
  • Plans and facilitates the maintenance and continual evolution of the School Library Media Program and collections, including an increase in digital resources.
  • Helps to lead teachers and students in a collaborative process to select and evaluate resources and ensure balance among teaching, instructional technology, collaboration, collection development, and program management.
  • Keeps accurate and relevant inventories of print, non-print, and technology materials and equipment and completes the NC Digital Learning & Media Inventory (NCDLMI) and Technology Collection each spring.
  • Creates a model engaging and vibrant collaborative learning space for teachers and students alike.
  • Manages and purges library collections annually, using Follett Destiny library management tool.
  • Collaborates regularly with teachers on special curriculum projects as requested, technology-infused instructions, and teaching research skills for students as needed using a researched-based model.
  • Facilitates Digital Citizenship instruction for every student yearly
Plans and Facilitates Digital and Personalized Teaching and Learning
  • Develops, in collaboration with the District, a vision for implementation of the Digital Learning Plan and Digital Learning Competencies.
  • Works with the principal, school leadership team, and District to provide access to technology resources and services at point of need.
  • Uses data-driven decision making and works to continuously improve teaching and learning with technology and media programs in the school.
  • Models and coaches teachers on purposeful design of digital and personalized teaching and learning.
  • Plans and facilitates professional development on the school and district level in the areas of digital learning and media in collaboration with the principal and district and school technology team members based upon needs as demonstrated through accountability and digital learning survey data
  • Has familiarity with and understanding of Canvas, Google Apps for Education and other digital tools
Instructional Design and Improvement
  • Serves as a curriculum leader and collaborator in the school.
  • Through guidance from the principal, assists the school and district curriculum leadership team with formatively coaching teachers on best practices for instruction.
  • Supports the implementation of the SCS curriculum, aligned with the digital learning professional development plan.
  • Encourages use of data-driven instructional improvement technologies to support student achievement.
  • Maintains safe and orderly classroom management in the Media Center, along with processes for management, and assignment of technology devices and resources
Other Responsibilities
  • Leads, with the principal and district coordinator, in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the school and district-wide digital learning and media programs.
  • Prepares and submits accurate reports of Technology Collection, digital Citizenship lessons, and the NCLLMI as required.
  • Carries out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed to ensure student safety.
  • Collaborates and/or takes the lead on additional projects as directed by the principal and district coordinator.
  • Performs other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of library media terminology and appropriate uses of media and technology to enhance instruction and achievement.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to use common audiovisual materials, common office machines and common computer programs.
  • Ability to use library automation programs.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively in order to gather, convey or exchange information including giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.
Minimum Training and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and NC Teacher Licensure AND
  • NC 076 certification for Media Coordinator, OR NC 077 license for Instructional Technology Specialist-Computers, OR NC 079 Special Endorsement in Computer Education
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Physical Requirements: The work regularly requires standing and walking around the classroom and school. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work often requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights and rarely, the lifting of weights above 30 pounds. The work occasionally handles/works with biohazards and/or risks for potential job-related injury, such as those found in a laboratory or shop environment. The work requires activities occasionally involving driving automotive equipment.
  • Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.
  • Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, articles, proposals, contracts, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, contracts, policies, handbooks, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
  • Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including educational and legal terminology.
  • Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory.
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
  • Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.
