Job Title: Digital Learning and Media Innovation Specialist

Job Summary:

The Digital Learning and Media Innovation Specialist will play a key role in the Stanly County Schools district, serving as the primary digital learning and library media program specialist. This position combines the roles of an Instructional Technology Facilitator and School Library Media Coordinator, producing a curriculum leadership role that directly impacts student achievement through digital teaching and learning, and media initiatives in the school building and district.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans and facilitates the maintenance and continual evolution of the School Library Media Program and collections, including an increase in digital resources.
  • Helps to lead teachers and students in a collaborative process to select and evaluate resources and ensure balance among teaching, instructional technology, collaboration, collection development, and program management.
  • Keeps accurate and relevant inventories of print, non-print, and technology materials and equipment and completes the NC Digital Learning & Media Inventory (NCDLMI) and Technology Collection each spring.
  • Manages and purges library collections annually, using Follett Destiny library management tool.
  • Collaborates regularly with teachers on special curriculum projects as requested, technology-infused instructions, and teaching research skills for students as needed using a researched-based model.
  • Facilitates Digital Citizenship instruction for every student yearly.
  • Plans and facilitates professional development on the school and district level in the areas of digital learning and media in collaboration with the principal and district and school technology team members based upon needs as demonstrated through accountability and digital learning survey data.
  • Has familiarity with and understanding of Canvas, Google Apps for Education, and other digital tools.
  • Supports the implementation of the SCS curriculum, aligned with the digital learning professional development plan.
  • Encourages use of data-driven instructional improvement technologies to support student achievement.
  • Maintains safe and orderly classroom management in the Media Center, along with processes for management, and assignment of technology devices and resources.
  • Leads, with the principal and district coordinator, in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the school and district-wide digital learning and media programs.
  • Prepares and submits accurate reports of Technology Collection, digital Citizenship lessons, and the NCLLMI as required.
  • Collaborates and/or takes the lead on additional projects as directed by the principal and district coordinator.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and NC Teacher Licensure
  • NC 076 certification for Media Coordinator, OR NC 077 license for Instructional Technology Specialist-Computers, OR NC 079 Special Endorsement in Computer Education

Work Environment:

The work occasionally handles/works with biohazards and/or risks for potential job-related injury, such as those found in a laboratory or shop environment.

The work requires activities occasionally involving driving automotive equipment.

Language Ability:

Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, contracts, policies, handbooks, budgets, etc.

Intelligence:

Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including educational and legal terminology.

Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.

Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.

Must be able to communicate via telephone.
