Job Summary

The Manger-Data Engineering & Analytics is a highly skilled and experienced leader with the ability to execute our enterprise data strategy, ensuring alignment with business strategy and driving optimal utilization of data resources. This position will manage a team of Analytics Developers, ETL Architects, and Data Scientists and is responsible for the design, development, and project management of Analytics solutions, including but not limited to building, enhancing and supporting data warehouses, Data Marts - both on prem and in the Cloud, support Epic Cognitive computing data models and develop and support predictive analytics. Working with business customers and leadership team to determine priorities as well working with and mentoring team members on emerging and advanced analytics concepts and strategies is also an integral role of the position. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data engineering, analytics, emerging technologies (AI, ML, NLP, Predictive Analytics), with a focus on cloud technologies and team leadership.

In this role, the Manger-Data Engineering & Analytics will interface with all departments to understand organizational needs and coordinate innovative solutions, leading the team, and instituting development and operational best practices. This role has production responsibility for the organization's Cloud Data Platform (Snowflake), ETL Tools (SSIS, Fivetran, CData, dbt), Analytics Tools (Qlik, Astrato), Epic Cognitive Computing Models and Data Science toolset (Dataiku). The Manger - Data Engineering & Analytics supports the organization's Data Governance program through contribution of all assets - dashboards, metrics etc. to the Analytics Catalog, use of all internal & external data sources to deliver data stewardship applications, and by assisting with the definition and adoption of data management principles, standards, processes, and controls across the organization.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or other certifications: Certified in Epic Clinical or Revenue Data Model or (or MUST be obtained within 1 year of date of hire).
    Certified in one of the Snow Pro Advanced certifications - SnowPro Advanced - Architect, Data Engineer or Data Scientist (or MUST be certified within 1 year of hire date)
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a related field (Computer Science, Business Analytics, Management Information Systems, Data Science)
  • Minimum Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years experience with various BI and other analytics platforms with strong preference for EPIC EMR, SQL, ETL tools (SSIS, Informatica, Data Stage, Talend), Analytics tools (PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau), and project management
    A minimum of 3 years of managerial/supervisory experience leading a highly, productive team.
    Proven experience in analytics, data management, data warehousing or ETL Tools is required
    Prior experience providing production level support and/or development in business intelligence (BI)/enterprise data warehouse (EDW) environments, data marts or analytics solutions required.
    Must have experience with capacity demand analysis and release planning
    Management experience over a highly productive team of analytics developers, architects, data engineers and data scientists
    Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
    Excellent communication skills and presentation abilities.
    Strong SQL, Data & analytics background required.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Manages a team of Analytics Developers, ETL Architects, DBAs and Data Scientists using Agile software development practices and methodologies in the design, development, and project management of end-to-end enterprise analytics solutions.
  • Assists Director of Data and Analytics with policies and procedures related to data security and integrity.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors for seamless enterprise data management team functionality and to achieve team/department goals.
  • Collaborate with Reporting & Self-Service team/manager to provide a seamless and superior end user experience with Reporting & Analytics. Work with the Manager of Reporting and Self Service on the development and communication of the organization's Analytics Catalog and Asset catalogs.
  • Build strong relationships with peers and business customers; maintains a service-oriented approach with customers, providing follow up and responding to issues/ concerns in a timely manner. Responsible for ensuring service level agreement adherence.
  • Manages the customer relationships with the operational managers and directors of NGHS services by gathering and exchanging information, designing solutions to problems, and coordinating services to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved.
  • Work with Director of analytics to develop and implement an enterprise data strategy aligned with business strategy. Identify internal and external data sources and create a comprehensive data management plan.
  • Must be process oriented and demonstrate the ability to build and lead high performing teams.
  • Drive culture and provide leadership for the data engineering team, specializing in Analytical Solutions and Architectural leadership
  • Manage upgrade, update or enhancement efforts associated with the EMR and business intelligence tools.
  • Documents procedures and standard work for technical areas, provides cross training to team members to ensure repeatable and consistent process are replicated throughout the technical team.
  • Manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of all Epic and non-Epic environment databases. Work with the Infrastructure team to implement and maintain a robust database DR strategy.
  • Manage database availability, performance tuning, security, and ongoing evolution of the architecture. Implement a proactive approach to monitoring and reporting tools for optimum database performance levels.
  • Work with Director of Analytics to establish and enforce data governance policies and build out a program to improve data literacy across the organization.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with regulations.
  • Lead the team in building out a Center of Excellence for Analytics and build a Citizen Developer program.
  • Manage the Data Engineering and Analytics Teams, including hiring, goal setting, performance reviews, and build out Professional Development plan for staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Chief of Analytics and enterprise architects to ensure consistency and alignment.
  • Provide architecture oversight to Agile Teams for data projects (ELTs, Snowflake, Data warehouses, Cloud Analytics).
  • Guide the team in building our documentation templates & standards to document architecture frameworks and ensure compliance with the organization's database standards.
  • Build and socialize ELT Center of Excellence.
  • Support the implementation, validation, and rollout of Epic predictive models.
  • Work with the business and BI Leadership on Generative AI strategy.
  • Round on internal clients to understand their data, analytical, and reporting needs.
  • Participates in MOD (Manager on Duty) on-call rotation.
  • Attends and facilitates daily Tiered readiness huddles and escalates any readiness issues that cannot be resolved to a higher-level Tiered Huddle (Tier 2/3)
  • Provide input into the NGHS Information Technology policies, Strategic Plan and annual IT budget and manages departmental spending with leadership peers ensure expenditures are within this budget.
  • Trains and monitors staff to adhere to department/organization policies and procedures, compliance and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Establishes annual performance goals and employee engagement action plans for the team and reports actual results against those goals and action plans monthly on the Tier 1 Huddle Board. Holds team members accountable to the achievement of these goals.
  • Handles escalations related to user access or data management issues. Designs and manages strategies and solutions for all database management systems team members within the organization.
  • In collaboration with the Director, manages the various governance committees to ensure that report requests are reviewed and prioritized appropriately, data is being defined across the enterprise, as appropriate, and there is adoption of data management principles, standards, processes, and controls across the organization.
  • Participate & contribute to AI Ethics and Governance committee for the organization.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Data and Analytics, leads the organization to be more data driven by helping the operational leaders understand the data and measure performance, challenge conclusions and question the reliability of the data source, and to focus on analytics that matter and are in alignment with strategic priorities, and use data to improve.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Data and Analytics and other organizational leadership, develop standard processes and methodologies to increase implementation and utilization of predictive risk models throughout the organization leveraging Epic's cognitive computing platform as well as other models and tools that may be applicable.
  • In collaboration with other team members and leadership, supports the evaluation, adoption and implementation of new methods, tools and technologies in order to meet current gaps in the organization-wide data and analytics infrastructure.
  • Monitors incident management queue. Efficiently troubleshoot, resolve, report and close active issues.
  • Independently anticipates needs of all stakeholder groups and identifies and brings forward new ways to solve problems.
