JOB SUMMARY:

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server systems. The role ensures the availability and consistent performance of corporate applications. This individual is responsible for the development and implementation of the physical database design and structure, ensuring data integrity, implementing security measures, and optimizing database performance. The DBA will collaborate with IT and development teams to resolve database issues, develop best practices, and support the ongoing operational needs of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an SQL Database Administrator, you will be expected to develop fast and performant database queries, in addition to performing database maintenance tasks and ensuring an even load distribution as required. Your duties will include following the best database architecture, design and development practices, staying up to date with all relevant data security procedures and complying with all applicable data protection legislation.

Below are additional duties and responsibilities:

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server instances.
  • Monitor and maintain database systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies.
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as index tuning, update statistics, and defragmentation.
  • Manage database security, including user roles and permissions.
  • Monitor system performance and optimize queries and indexes.
  • Analyze and resolve performance issues in SQL Server environments.
  • Implement best practices for database design and development.
  • Work with developers to optimize and troubleshoot SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Ensure the integrity, availability, and security of databases.
  • Implement data encryption and masking techniques as required.
  • Conduct regular audits of database systems to identify potential security vulnerabilities.
  • Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery plans for database systems.
  • Perform regular backup operations and ensure data is recoverable.
Our ideal SQL Database Administrator will possess a combination of the following education, skills and abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years direct experience as an SQL Database Administrator

  • Advanced knowledge of database procedures and Microsoft SQL Server concepts
  • The ability to create fast and efficient database queries, including joining and cross-referencing from several tables
  • Demonstrated knowledge of large, relational databases and data structures.
  • Strong quantitative skills, attention to detail, and a high aptitude for problem solving.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Able to work as a team player with Application Developers and operational personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by Team Members to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear. Required to frequently sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

The Team Member is occasionally required to lift and/or move 10 pounds, sit; stoop, bend and kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, etc.

This is a full-time, onsite position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional after-hours and overtime required.
