POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The job of Technology Software Specialist is done for the purpose of supporting use of computer-based software and information systems at the district and site levels; supporting the school sites in the management of school site data for instructional information systems; and providing end-user technical support, training, through the district technology help desk operation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Oversight and operation of district instructional technology help desk
  • Research technical support issues in response to user inquiries (for the purpose of answering questions, providing data, problem-solving) and management of various instructional information systems
  • Respond to requests (from community members as well as district employees) for technical support in person, by phone, or electronically for district-supported technologies
  • Compose, create and distribute support documents to assist users for the purpose of operating district-supported technologies
  • Facilitate the data transfer from the student information system to various instructional data systems with the district
  • Provide instructional data systems reports and data analysis as needed
  • Work cooperatively with other members of the IT department personnel to serve as a resource to district personnel for the purpose of providing customer service
  • Provide on-site and one-on-one training as appropriate
  • Audits online professional development data for the purpose of accuracy and validation of employee information in the current systems
  • Coordinates all software upgrades pertinent to the existing software systems for the purpose of satisfying compliance with vendor recommendations and specifications
  • Maintains daily operations and functions of district online learning systems
  • Coordinate communication and reporting data between departments
  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all district personnel in the development of online training courses
  • Upgrades and increases knowledge of current software systems by attending training or requesting additional support from administration for the purpose of professional development
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE required performing algebra and/or geometry; reading technical information, composing a variety of documents, and/or facilitating group discussions; and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; computer hardware and software.

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

SKILLS required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operate equipment utilized in position; operate standard office equipment; utilize pertinent software applications (Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Access); plan and manage projects, operating and supporting Windows 2012 and 2016 servers, and proficiency in working with SQL databases.

ABILITY (position requirements at entry):

ABILITY required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communication ability with diverse groups; meet deadlines and schedules, recordkeeping.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

This job involves traveling within the school district visiting school sites as well as meetings held outside the district.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
