Job Summary
The Deputy Superintendent Business Services shall be responsible for overseeing and managing the internal operations of the District, including responding to the needs of school sites and community concerns, coordinating District wide initiatives, and collaborating with District and site administrators to address complex issues. The Deputy Superintendent Business Services shall also serve as the District's chief business and finance officer and will plan, organize, direct, and administer the affairs of the Business Services Department, which includes Fiscal Services (attendance accounting, health/welfare benefits, payroll, accounting, purchasing, budget, risk management), and related operations and support services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide guidance and leadership to all District departments, as necessary, and make recommendations for operational improvements to the Superintendent.
  2. Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures to ensure the district operates efficiently and cost effectively.
  3. Facilitate the development and administration of human resources plans and programs that further the District's Strategic Plan by collaborating and sharing information with District administrators and staff.
  4. Provide advice and counsel to the Superintendent and other District personnel when needed to achieve efficient and effective operations, especially in areas pertaining to financial management.
  5. Maintain knowledge of current laws, research, and procedures in areas related to the Business Services Department and provide the Governing Board, administrators, staff, and other interested parties with related information.
  6. Lead implementation of the District Strategic Plan.
  7. Coordinate activities with district leaders, resolving issues and ensuring alignment across departments.
  8. Serve as a Cabinet member and attend all Board of Education meetings.
  9. Act as a liaison to legislators, government officials, and community groups on educational matters.
  10. Build partnerships with the Board, labor organizations, businesses, and community stakeholders.
  11. Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel, handling performance assessments and personnel actions.
  12. Prepare Board agenda items, reports, and correspondence.
  13. Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

  • Provide leadership in budget development, financial planning, and fiscal accountability, ensuring sustainable and equitable resource allocation.
  • Oversee financial operations, including cash flow management, procurement, payroll, and financial reporting, maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Lead efforts to maximize funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and alternative revenue sources.
  • Implement efficient business processes that enhance transparency, streamline operations, and improve financial controls.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Superintendent and Governing Board on financial trends, risks, and long-term planning.
Human Capital and Talent Management
  • Oversee the Human Resources functions, ensuring effective recruitment, retention, and professional development strategies.

  • Demonstrated expertise in financial management, human capital strategy, and operational oversight.
  • Experience implementing process improvements, cost-saving measures, and technology-driven efficiencies.
  • Strong understanding of public sector compliance, school funding models, and strategic resource allocation.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours as needed to support district initiatives.
