Description

Position Title: Peer Support Specialist TAY

Program: Counseling and Treatment Center

Classification: Non-exempt Full-Time

Salary Range: $20.00 to $24.00/hr

Summary and Range of Authority: At Counseling and Treatment Center (CTC) we believe in promoting wellness through the lifespan. Be a part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team working with an exciting population. Receive training and supervision from experienced and responsive supervisors. Gain experience working with a diverse population, and training in a variety of interventions to help grow your skills.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Conducts peer specialist individual interventions for TAY clients who are resistant to treatment
  • Facilitates orientation group for newly admitted TAY clients
  • Co-facilitates Social Skills group, WRAP Group or other Recovery groups that are peer-led
  • Performs case management and family education services as needed
  • Uses own peer recovery story for messages of hope for clients
  • Greets clients and family members in the waiting room or during initial assessment, and share messages of hope and recovery as needed, including sharing one's personal experience
  • Assists clients with case management services and referrals for adjunct services as needed, under the direction of the clients' therapist
  • Prepares accurate and timely documentation of reports and records as required by the program, which includes documentation of interpretation, case management and other services rendered
  • Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in program planning, diagnosis, treatment, goal development, utilization review, and discharge planning
  • Attends staff and other meetings
  • TAY Peer will represent the TAY demographic, providing supportive and rehabilitative services, conducting outreach and overall engagement to the TAY populations served.
  • Must complete Medi-Cal Peer Support Certification, along with other trainings, within 90 days. This certification includes classes and an exam that must be passed to become certified.

Minimum requirements:
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; Representative of the TAY populations being served. Bilingual/bicultural in threshold language preferred
  • Candidate must possess a Peer Support Specialist Certificate or obtain one within the first 90 days of employment per County requirement.
Additional requirements:
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience using office productivity software (i.e., word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email programs)
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion; ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • Skilled in proofing and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to work well with the public as well as with non-English speaking psychiatric clients
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to sensitive or proprietary information or materials
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a multicultural environment, including tact, diplomacy, patience and professionalism in dealing with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Will not be debarred or excluded from participation in Federal programs by the General Services Administration and/or Department of Health and Human Services of the Inspector General; and must pass fingerprint background check (Live Scan) and TB test.
Additional preferred qualifications:
  • Previous work with diverse communities in mental health or social services setting
  • Experience with interpreters in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record system; and experience with dual-diagnosis programs and/or behavioral health integration.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Spends approximately 70% of work time sitting and meeting with others or working at a desk and/or computer. Spends approximately 30% of work time standing or walking within the work area or outside the office at meetings and events, also bends, twists, stoops and reaches. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. Regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently is required to use hands to touch, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Working conditions are normal for an office environment and event venues. The noise level is usually moderate.
