Description
Summary: Responsible for direct total nursing care of patients including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation within the policies and procedures standard in the Critical Care Unit. The CCS RN will plan and deliver care for acute adult and geriatric medical and surgical patients, coronary patients, and in rare cases, infant, pediatric and adolescent patients. The CCU RN will provide after hours post-anesthesia recovery care. The CCS RN will maintain skills in detection and management of all aspects of intensive care, including use of specialized equipment and procedures.

- Coordination:

- Departmental Readiness:
- Maintains the critical care department in a functional state of readiness.
- Ensures availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
- Current Maine licensure as a registered professional nurse.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Completion of Critical Care/Code Blue Course; TNCC, CCRN, NALS encouraged.
- Critical Care Course can be 1:1 with Division Director during orientation.
- Requires a minimum of two years of ICU experience
- CC course preferred prior to application.
- Recent training/experience in medication administration and nursing process in an acute care setting.
- Familiarity with IS computer system and Monitoring System.
- Familiarity with CCS-specific equipment and medications.
- Knowledge of ALS procedures and policies.
- Emotional maturity and good people skills required.
- Ability to take in, process, and apply clinical information in a wide variety of patient care situations.
- Ability to perform well under stressful situations.
- Must be able to prioritize, multi-task, and follow through.
- Able to sit, stand, and walk for an 8-12 hour shift.
- Adequate hearing, vision, speech, and manual dexterity.
- General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours.
- Able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds (assisting patients in and out of bed, etc.).
- Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Potential for exposure to contagious diseases.
- Potential for periods of high stress.
