Job Title: Environmental Services Technician I

The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Services Technician I to join our team. As an Environmental Services Technician I, you will play a critical role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our visitors and employees.

Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, bathrooms, and other facilities using established practices and procedures.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Operate and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers, and vacuums.
  • Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
  • Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not in use; check for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn off lights.
  • Handle recycling materials.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to walk 26,000 steps nightly or approximately 10 miles during the course of nightly duties.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to organize time effectively; demonstrated ability to manage details and provide excellent client service skills.
  • Ability to understand written/verbal instructions and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Effective interpersonal skills sufficient to permit incumbent to work effectively with a wide variety of people and personalities representing both internal clients and external suppliers.
  • Ability to use computers and basic business computer programs (email, web, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
