Overview

We are seeking a full-time community health specialist to join our Prevention team. As a Community Health Specialist, you will be based out of Granite City, IL but will primarily work remotely or in the community. A community health specialist entrenches themselves in the community, while developing and evaluating training/education programs for youth and adults. You'll create materials, participate in advocacy groups, and lead various projects. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred as some outreach and trainings will be in Spanish-speaking communities.

Chestnut Health Systems is a leading provider of behavioral and primary health care services. Over four decades, Chestnut has grown to almost 800 committed, compassionate employees providing substance use, mental health, and primary care treatment to patients in Illinois and Missouri. We provide fully integrated care for all our patients by combining behavioral health care services with our community-based primary care health centers. Chestnut also conducts research and training throughout the U.S.A.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs and trainings for youth and/or adults.
  • Plan and assist with grant and contract work plan development.
  • Assist in the development and management of budgets.
  • Mentor/assist training peers.
  • Develop, conduct, and analyze needs assessments and program evaluations.
  • Facilitate and support the organizational activities of assigned community groups or youth leadership groups, including facilitating meetings, recruitment, and ongoing communication with stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement educational or informational materials (e.g., newsletters, media campaigns) based on current research and grant requirements.
  • Participate in local and state advocacy groups and other coalitions.
  • Promote the recovery model of treatment, including trauma-informed care, hope, respect, empowerment, health/wellness, and spirituality/connectedness in all interactions, using recovery language.
  • Promote the culture of customer service excellence through adherence to behavioral standards for customer service.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public health, or a related field with 2+ years’ experience; OR
  • Master’s degree in a behavioral health-related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and online reporting systems.
  • Public speaking, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Ability to travel and have home internet.
  • Ability to obtain DCFS CANTS Child Abuse Clearance.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
