Communication Technician

Denver Transit Operators, (DTO) is a privately held company that has a 29-year contract with RTD to operate and maintain the new commuter rail system within the Greater Denver Metro area. We currently have an open position for Communication Technician. The Communication Technician is responsible for inspection, testing and repair of the commuter railroad network and communications infrastructure, including voice, data, and signal, and train control, CCTV and network security services.

Pay:

Our Communication Technicians can expect to earn an hourly salary $33.65 to 39.29 DOE.

Description of Duties:

As a Communication Technician, you will receive classroom and hands-on training as part of a formal training program. We will teach you the dynamic workings of our commuter railroad network, as well as the communication infrastructure. The duties of the communication technician employes include but are not limited to:
  • Maintenance, inspection, testing and repair of communications systems used in train control equipment.
  • Alignment, adjustment, and calibration of instruments and equipment as a result of testing.
  • Troubleshooting of faulty equipment, electronic components, and circuits to locate defects and diagnose causes of malfunction.
  • Replacement and repair of defective wiring and components, and/or adjustment of mechanical parts.
  • Maintenance of records of inspections, repairs, calibrations, and tests in Asset Works management system.
  • Maintenance, inspection, testing and repair of the Operations Control Center (OCC) system and wayside equipment along all corridors.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party in maintaining DTO communication systems.
  • Perform the work of other classifications of employees for which the employee is qualified as determined by the Company in its sole discretion.
  • All other work assigned by the Company in its sole discretion as Communication’s work.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in electronic/computer technology or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3-year experience working electronic diagnosis and repair preferred
  • Experience in railroad train control inspection, maintenance and repair preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work nights, holidays and weekends, including working overtime as needed
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug test
This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules & regulations of the Federal Railroad Administration and their Drug & Alcohol policy.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates can expect to be in a locomotive cab for much of their shift and may be required to perform the following physical activities.
  • Must be able to climb towers up to 40 feet high.
  • Stand for sustained periods and work in outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat or cold.
