Position: Automotive Services Teacher
Reports to: Lead Principal at Madison Career & Technical Center

Job Purpose:
In keeping with MCTC's tradition of excellence, the purpose of the CTE Teacher is to help students learn required subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women; and to lead by example in abiding by employee code of conduct policies outlined in the staff handbook. To perform this job
successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at the assigned school and at times designated by Principal.
  • Plan a program of study in accordance with state approved curriculum that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of Principal.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as assigned.
CTE Teacher Job Description
  • Identify and report the possibility of learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate job performance.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by participation in training sessions and classes.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned and MS Dept. of Education fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use.
  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Regular, dependable, in person, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform such other, and not specifically enumerated, duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy.
  • Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, all other District, State and Federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by MCS and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct.

Qualifications:
1. Education
- Applicant must have earned a two-year college degree (associate degree) or higher from an accredited institution of higher education.
2. Technology Literacy and Related Assessment of that Competency
- Applicant must validate technology competency by attaining the established minimum score or higher on an assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). The assessment must be directly related to technology competency required by the grade level and subject matter being taught. Approved assessments for this license are IC3 or other approved MDE substitute.
3. Occupational Experience and Related Assessment of that Experience
- Applicants with an associate degree must have at least two years of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. Experience must be appropriate to the subject to be taught.
- Applicants with a bachelor or higher degree must have at least one year of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. Experience must be appropriate to the subject to be taught. An educator with a standard five - year license may use experience outside of the ten - year timeframe.
- Applicant must hold ASE Certifications in the following five areas:
a) Steering and Suspension (test A4)
b) Brakes (test A5)
c) Electrical/Electronics (test A6)
d) Engine Performance (test A8)
e) Maintenance and Light Repair (test G1)
