Job Description

SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Technician III ensures the safety and efficiency of forming production processes. They assist in developing and implementing new or modified production processes, tools, and equipment. They also identify and document operational control standards and test equipment to ensure compliance with engineering specifications. They set up forming machines, support equipment, and test apparatus and conduct tests on parts, components, and finished formed items.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans machining operations by studying work orders, engineering orthographic drawings, engineering work instructions, materials, specifications, and thermoforming dimensions and tolerances.
  • Programs thermo-forming machines by installing and adjusting tools and attachments.
  • Verifies settings and programs by measuring critical dimensions on the first-run part and sample workpieces adhering to standards.
  • Maintains part specifications by observing thermoforming operations.
  • Monitors machine feed and speed during thermoforming, taking measurements and detecting program errors and malfunctions.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical production line problems to minimize finished item rejection levels.
  • Monitoring gauges, dials, and other production equipment/machinery performance indicators.
  • Adheres to quality assurance procedures and process specifications.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs in job turnovers. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to update job knowledge. Offsite or off-shift training can achieve continuous self-improvement.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests (cross-training) and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Comply with lean manufacturing principles and work with leads and supervisors to explore and implement best practices in the manufacturing process.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Able to train new potential set-up technicians.
  • Train operators in basic setups.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational training or apprenticeship completion preferred.
  • 5+ years of related setup experience required.
  • 2+ years' experience in thermoforming or injection mold machines preferred.
  • Experience using and programming production, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines.
  • Experience as a machinist with formal training in setting up and running big-scale production machines.
  • Experience using hand tools, such as mechanical and hand-cutting tools, jigsaws, oscillating cutters, and other general tools.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Conversational in any other language preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Proficient in math and analytical abilities, including but not limited to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
JOB SKILLS
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint is necessary.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of plastic thermoforming or injection machines or similar for machine controls.
  • Knowledge of the properties of plastic material (preferred).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, engineering orders, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent skills in reading and understanding blueprints accurately.
  • Ability to provide design for manufacturing feedback.
  • Ability to use precision and portable coordinate measuring equipment to take accurate measurements.
  • Advanced and specialized knowledge in a particular analytical, scientific, or operational method, typically gained through job-related training and extensive practical experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

As part of their job duties, the employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day while frequently using their hands to handle objects and communicate verbally. Additionally, they may need to reach, stretch, push, pull, crouch, stoop, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
