Applies dual expertise as a business analyst and as a cost accountant to ensure all financial information and operational documentation are compiled and recorded appropriately. Distributes this information to appropriate levels of management. Plays a key role in developing, maintaining, and analyzing standard costs, purchase price variances and variances. Partners with teammates across the organization to ensure the integrity and availability of cost for profitability models. Applies principals of cost accounting to conduct studies, which provide detailed cost information not supplied by general accounting systems. Develops, interprets, and implements complex financial and accounting system for planning and control. Partners with multi-functional teams to improve upon performance and internal controls.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Collect and analyze data about operational costs.
    • Set standard costs for product categories.
    • Develop and analyze cost standards for existing and new products and services.
    • Define and maintain cost components for tracing specific costs of business processes such as administration, labor, transportation, services, etc.
  • Work with sales, operations, and purchasing to recommend changes to processes and policies by reducing cost and maximizing profit.
  • Advise executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data.
  • Coordinate with IT department for system issues, maintenance, and development.
  • Prepare detailed account analysis and reconciliations of sales, cost accounts, inventory, liability accounts by customer type by division. Review and analyze inventory and margin reports. Conduct research and perform analytical studies in connection with cost analyses and profitability. Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory and gross margin schedules to management.
  • Support the development of the accounting system and maintain documentation/records.
  • Determine the costs and efficiency of company purchasing activities.
  • Gather business requirements from accounting, operations & FP&A functions to design, build, test, and implement solution.
  • Define cost methods to use in cost simulation analysis. Assign cost factors and rates to a specific item. Run and evaluate complete simulation of costs, including time studies in distribution centers. Ensure all costs data is incorporated appropriately into world-class profitability model.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on accounting, finance, or other area relevant to role of position. Master's degree preferred in business or related degree preferred.
  • Exceptional work experience may be considered in substitute of a master's degree.
  • CPA/CMA preferred. Big 4 (PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, EY) experience preferred.
  • Two or more years cost accounting experience required.
  • Pricing experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of activity-based costing, absorption costing and variable vs fixed expense analysis, cost accounting theory and methodology, including knowledge of relevant GAAP rules.
  • In depth knowledge of statistical methods and data analysis.
  • Ability to dig into detail, manage complexity and drive decision making.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills with ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Tableau and Alteryx experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and data sources.
  • Ability to work comfortably with and gain the trust of senior leaders in the company.

  • Office environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% required.
