A Brief Overview Directs, manages and serves as the practice leader/advocate for Behavioral Health Services (psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health practitioners, and other behavioral health providers, Family Support Center) in order to accomplish organizational and departmental strategic goals and objectives. Coordinates services and provides leadership for designated area. Has overall accountability for assigned areas. Essential Functions Responsible for strategic growth of Behavioral Health Services programs in keeping with hospital mission. • Approves and monitors program budgets within established time frames. • Participates in decisions that affect the organization, including but not limited to operations, human resource management and fiscal management • Responsible for development of policies, procedures, protocols and processes for Behavior Health Services within Children’s Hospital system. • Develops implements and maintains management systems of planning, marketing, finance, personnel and administration consistent with short and long range strategies of the Hospital. • Represents the hospital and Behavioral Health Services programs to national, regional, and local audiences as appropriate to maximize referrals and program reputation. • Maximizes participation in payer plans and develops services to optimize community image, customer satisfaction, and program revenues. Provides overall program direction for psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health practitioners, and other behavioral health providers. • Responsible for overall Performance Improvement processes of Behavioral Health programs. • Responsible for overall compliance of Behavioral Health programs with all appropriate regulatory bodies, including The Joint Commission. • Maintains visibility and collaborative relationships with behavioral health services and physician practices within the community. • Participates on Hospital and community committees and boards related to children’s issues, as appropriate. • Develops and revises operational systems to meet the needs of customers, manages resources efficiently and effectively, reduces non-value-added activities, and manages costs. • Serves as a clinical role model for staff • Provides direct and indirect patient care based on identified patient needs. Performs a variety of personnel management functions in support of Children’s mission, vision, and goals Personnel Management • Selects/hires employees and oversees training on job related tasks. • Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment. • Makes salary recommendations. • Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations). • Determines human resource needs. Operational/Financial Management Participates in the development and implementation of strategic objectives for the division. • Develops and implements business plans for the department(s) that support the goals and strategies of the organization. • Defines and approves processes and procedures within the department(s). • Develops and recommends policies related to the operational or functional area. • Develops the annual budget for the operational or functional area including human resource needs. Prepares budget variance reports and develops corrective strategies to meet the area’s operational or financial plan. • Applies business and management expertise to set direction, measure results, resolve problems, and achieve operational and financial objectives. • Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies, regulatory, and legal requirements Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job. Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section Supports improvement efforts in the healthcare system through special projects. Education Qualifications Master's Degree from an accredited college or university Required and Doctoral degree with active license as psychologist in Nebraska Preferred Experience Qualifications Minimum five years of behavioral health services experience in a hospital or health-related setting Required and 2 years of management, supervisory, or lead experience Required and Experience in a pediatric environment Preferred Skills and Abilities Skill in managing and supervising professional therapists. Knowledge and skill in administration of educational and psychological testing, provision of counseling, consultation and psychotherapy, and diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders. Knowledge and interaction with school systems and other community organizations providing services to children and families. Knowledge with managed care contract provisions, requirements and regulations, including billing requirements. Knowledge and skill in employment contract administration. Knowledge and skill in program growth and development for behavioral medicine, with preference given to proven skills in pediatric/family support behavioral medicine. Ability to identify and coordinate with community-based resources for support of families and children. Ability to develop relationships with community physicians and other referral sources. Demonstrated skill in managing multiple and complex budgets.
