The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist/CSO Oncology will provide outpatient nutrition counseling and education to clients/families and the community in the Oncological space. This includes coordinating care, assessing and identifying risk factors, negotiating care plans with the patient, education (group and/or individual), monitoring and communicating outcomes with other providers and health care team. The candidate must also have extensive experience with nutrition focused physical exam (NFPE), enteral and parenteral nutrition and provide recommendations as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • In collaboration with the PCP, oncologist and multidisciplinary team, identify and prioritize strategies to assist patients with managing their nutrition during cancer care and survivorship.
  • Understanding of the pathophysiology and medication management of oncology, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, gastrointestinal issues, IBS/IBD, food allergies, Obesity, malnutrition, metabolic disorders and basic concepts of nutrition care coordination, self-management and motivational techniques.
  • Engage in community events to promote nutrition services and provide education.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Track nutrition specific outcomes.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Required, Master of Science is preferred.

  • 2-3 years of experience in outpatient/inpatient counseling.
  • 1-3 years of working primarily with oncology patients.
  • Registered Dietitian with current licensure and registration.
  • Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO) upon hire is preferred. If candidate does not hold CSO credential, the successful passing of the CSO is required within 12 months of hiring. Cost of exam and prep will be covered by GLIN.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Needed for Performance of Job:

  • Pathophysiology and management of oncology, malnutrition, diabetes, lipids, hypertension, gastrointestinal issues, kidney disease, liver disease, metabolic disorders and basic concepts of nutrition care coordination, self-management and motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process, NFPE, Malnutrition Diagnosing Criteria.
  • Solid understanding and appreciation of the fundamental principles of safe nutrition programming for cancer population.
  • Experience with writing nutrition care plans for patients on enteral and parenteral feeds.
  • Proficient in discussing lab results with patients and requesting specific labs when necessary.
  • Familiarity with vitamins, minerals, supplements and drug nutrient interactions.
  • High level of cultural competency; passionate about equity and inclusion; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written; ability to collaborate with peers and provide constructive feedback to others.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to work independently.
  • Competent in navigating EHR, Microsoft and excel.

Pay range $70,000 to $85,000

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
