WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COACH

The Workforce Development Coach guides youth and young adults toward employment opportunities, educational programs, and training resources by facilitating group sessions, individual coaching, and community engagement to build professional skills and employer relationships. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with the standards set by Daybreak, the Board of Directors, funding sources, CARF, and other accrediting bodies by performing the following duties:

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES GUIDELINES AND DUTIES:

Serve as a career coach to help clients explore their interests, develop skills and goals in alignment with the Housing First for Youth model. Formulate individualized strategies to help clients achieve these goals.

Build and maintain a strong network of community and business partners, guest speakers, and mentors to enhance program support and provide valuable connections and professional exposure for youth. Develop strong, collaborative relationships with employers and partner organizations, expand employment opportunities and strengthen support networks for clients.

Develop and implement training in essential professional skills, such as communication, networking, business etiquette, personal responsibility, ethics, and self-discipline, in collaboration with Lindy's staff.

Provide coaching on professional tools and skills, including resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies. Organize mock interviews with business partners to enhance clients' readiness for real-world opportunities.

Create and oversee a formal internship and job shadow program, assisting clients in securing internships, job shadow placements, and interview opportunities with potential employers.

Support career fair activities, participate in industry-related Advisory Committees, and contribute to Daybreak and Montgomery County workforce development initiatives.

Establish apprenticeship and industry-specific partnerships to provide clients with hands-on work experience and employment opportunities.

Maintain accurate records, provide regular reports to the Workforce Development Manager, and document progress in Care Logic, ensuring compliance with Daybreak's standards, funders, and monitoring requirements.

Conduct outreach to employers, monitor job preparation activities, and ensure clients receive timely, relevant career guidance based on current employment trends.

Coordinate with program sites and external agencies to monitor and report on youth progress, ensuring consistent communication and support.

Provide comprehensive Workforce Development/Education services for assigned youth, developing individual Supportive Employment Plans aligned with treatment goals and tracking quarterly outcome data.

Achieve a minimum of 72 hours of monthly productivity by providing individual and group services. Ensure timely and accurate documentation of progress notes, billable services, and employment plans within 72 hours, in compliance with agency standards, funder requirements, monitors, CARF, and internal guidelines.

Develop and lead innovative workforce development activities both on-site and within the community to enhance client employability and professional skills.

Design and facilitate engaging community-based activities for clients, including outreach, advocacy, and connections to essential resources.

Use natural and logical consequences to help youth and young adults develop self-management skills, employing the therapeutic milieu model to support their behavior and create a positive environment.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, ensuring the security and proper use of equipment and tools.

Attend required training and agency meetings, completing all Daybreak compliance training. Pursue additional professional development opportunities as relevant to workforce development responsibilities.

Actively participate in boards, collaboratives, and workforce development-related professional organizations to stay connected with community needs and enhance job skills.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

GENERAL DAYBREAK DUTIES:

Assumes an advocacy and leadership role which exemplifies the belief in the potential of the youth.

Conducts self in compliance with agency Diversity and Inclusion guidelines and requirements for the purpose of acknowledging and respecting the individual's being served and co-workers.

Recognizes and accepts agency service limitations when serving youth and helps his/her direct service staff to understand and accept those limitations.

Ensures all duties set by agency's guidelines and programs policies and procedures are completed on time and as assigned.

Meets, as assigned with Supervisor to discuss programing and youth's progress.

Notifies supervisors of potential or real emergencies including criminal activities, high risk behavior, mental health emergencies, health emergencies or other activities that impact safety, security, and public relations.

Models professional behavior and actively contributes in a positive manner and demonstrates constructive positive problem-solving strategies and openness to others' opinions

Refrains from engaging in dual-relationships or any other ethical boundary with youths to ensure and protect youth's rights and consults with supervisor when there might be a risk of these situations.

Refrains from engaging in negative or counterproductive behaviors and attitudes and strives to keep the well-being of co-workers and youths at the forefront.

Demonstrate appreciation, understanding and trust in the work of his/her colleagues

Participates in outside agency professional development opportunities, collaboratives, meetings and/or relative boards as appropriate, available, and accessible in conjunction with the scope of their responsibilities.

Attends training/agency meetings, as scheduled. Responsible for completing all required trainings needed to comply with Daybreak policy. Maintains appropriate in-service training hours by attending conferences, workshops, and training that are relevant to the job description and assignment tasks.

Adheres to and upholds agency's Mission, policies and procedures, core values, and maintain and contribute to positive customer relations-both internally and externally (youths, staff, vendors, donors.)

Attends All-Staff meetings each year

Drives Daybreak vehicles, when necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree preferred, from a four-year college or university, or a 2-year degree with 2 years post-graduation experience or 5+ years of work experience with at-risk youth.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend procedures and simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write knowledgeably and legibly. Ability to spell correctly or use appropriate resources to minimize spelling errors. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, youths, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Background Check

Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks.

Pre-employment Testing

The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include:
  • A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing)
  • A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing)


Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed.

If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.

Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.
