The applications engineer fulfills a key role in the preparation of technical and commercial proposals for new equipment and supports the team during deal closing and overall opportunity discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret requisitions and specifications for new reciprocating compressors in Upstream, Midstream and Downstream Oil & Gas and Petrochemical applications.
  • Run calculations and develop Burckhardt Compression reciprocating compressor selections using company performance selection tools.
  • Configure solutions and prepare cost requests for complete compressor packages, including compressor frames, distance pieces, cylinders, valves, on-skid piping and wiring, baseplates, lube oil systems, cooling water systems, and related scopes of supply.
  • Prepare complete technical proposal, including scope of supply, P&ID's, datasheets, performance curves, and inspection and test plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of commercial proposal, including pricing and delivery.
  • Assist in development the project cost-price makeup, from Burckhardt Compression factory cost estimates and sub-supplier proposals to develop a deal profitability profile.
  • Identify execution and technical risks, and work with subject matter experts to prepare a deal Risk Profile.
  • Assist in sales strategy development including preparation of the value story for new equipment solution offerings.
  • Prepare and submit Order Entry documentation to Order Execution Teams upon award of project.
  • Demonstrate an inclusive awareness and appreciation for internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • To provide effective leadership to colleagues and subordinate coworkers, and to support management.
  • To inform the supervisor and/or management of any deficiency, potential deficiency or non-compliance with company policy and procedure within or outside the area of responsibility.
  • To ensure all safety requirements according to the Government regulations and according to the company's safety manual are met and to strictly enforce a "0" tolerance policy
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience in Applications or Controls Engineering is a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment specifically O&G is a plus
  • AutoCAD
  • Ability to travel domestic and international
  • Ability to pass background and drug/alcohol screen
Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including MS Office, electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

  • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.
  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
  • Occasional travel for business purposes
  • Regular working hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00.
