GIS Technician

Wecom, Inc. is hiring a GIS Technician for our Las Vegas office.

We are looking to hire an experienced GIS technician to read and interpret maps and other GIS data, enter the data into the GIS database, draw maps using automated software, and compile reports for commissions and zone planners.

To ensure success as a GIS technician, you should have advanced computer mapping skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for research. A top-class GIS technician can take raw geographic data and transform it into usable maps and documents for business purposes.

GIS Technician Responsibilities:
  • Compiling reports using all available legal descriptions, GIS maps, and work prints
  • Coordinating with Design Engineer and FTTH networks following construction and government standards utilizing GIS software (Vetro, Vitruvi, and QGIS)
  • Ability to utilize survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography, and other geographic data for consideration in FTTH design.
  • Work with Construction and Customer service to ensure outside plant and address data in all systems accurately reflect as-built state.
  • Update existing GIS databases (Vetro) utilizing As-Built drawings and electronic data sources.
  • Review and correct auto generated network designs utilizing Wecom Fiber design guidelines.
  • Generate maps from GIS software (Vetro) for permitting, construction, splicing, and general design.
EDUCATION:
  • High School diploma
  • Associate degree preferred.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of Fiber Design
  • Fiber Planning experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Google Maps/Earth, AutoCAD, ESRI, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions.
  • Ability to work on multifaceted projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present facts clearly and accurately in graphic form.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines.

  • Excellent analytical skills.
