Summary:

The Occupational Health Nurse Manager is a medical professional who will oversee our occupational health programs. This role will coordinate care and case management and facilitate a timely return to work to ensure injury/claim resolution for Greater Omaha team members injured at work, emphasizing occupational health. This role will also be a liaison between the employees, medical providers, management, safety, human resources, worker compensation, and legal teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the occupational health team
  • administering injury prevention, disability management, and vocational rehabilitation programs.
  • Responsible for workers' compensation claims handling, performance monitoring, and contract negotiating.
  • Collaborates with safety resources and leadership to assure a safe workplace and provides disability management education and training to team members and leadership.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient occupational health process appropriate to the needs of our organization
  • Provide observation, care, and counsel of team members with occupational illness or injuries, including nursing assessment, first aid, follow-up care, rehabilitation service, and case management.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations, including OSHA, Worker's Compensation, etc.
  • Adhere to health management protocols as directed.
  • Schedule and/or perform health assessments and evaluate team members for return to work, fitness for duty, and medical surveillance according to our policies and safety protocols and the authorized physician's written directives.
  • Coordinate transportation for team members in need of medical care to external appointments
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with workers to establish confidence and cooperation in health care provided.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all plant personnel and external partners
  • Partner with training to Include health and safety education in all areas of worker involvement.
  • Assist managers and supervisors in identifying appropriate alternative or transitional duty job tasks that meet team members' abilities and medical restrictions.
  • Frequently observe team members on alternate or transitional duty at their workstations while doing their restricted job tasks.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping according to OSHA regulations
  • Conduct all assigned job tasks within legal, ethical and moral standards of care to all of our team members
  • Responsible for any pandemic protocols
  • Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position will have two direct reports (Occupational Health & Safety Nurse, Occupational Health & Safety Admin)
Qualification Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse Licensed in the State of Nebraska
  • CPR certification.
  • Three years of relevant nursing experience
  • Knowledge of current literature applicable to occupational health and/or worker's
  • Certification or relevant experience handling emergency management and incident analysis
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the field's policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Performs complex tasks. Leads and directs the work of other employees.
  • Has full authority for personnel decisions and may impact departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.
  • Help with goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior management.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to establish departmental budgets and track adherence.
  • Ability to define and implement OHS statistics and metric reporting.
  • Willingness and ability to work in diverse jurisdictions and with diverse groups.
Highly Desirable Skills:
  • Experience working in either an employee health clinic, occupational health
  • Prior experience in the food processing industry
  • Previous experience directly handling worker's compensation in a manufacturing setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
Education requirement:
  • Graduate of a school of nursing - Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) - Preferred
Work Schedule
  • Work schedule will vary and may include work on evenings, weekends, and holidays due to special events, inclement weather, and other projects
Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in both a plant-based office area and warehouse/receiving areas.
  • The employee may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures and a possibly dusty environment.
  • This position will require Regularly lifting 25-30 pounds and occasionally up to 50-75 pounds. May be required to push or pull loads up to 100 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for long periods.
  • Often required to reach with hands and arms. Will need to climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
