Job Description and Duties Candidates in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount. This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Data and Integrity Branch, the incumbent serves as part of a team that collects, analyzes, monitors, and leverages data, research, and policies to benefit, optimize, and protect the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and its participants, local agencies, and vendors. The candidate works under the general direction of the Chief, Vendor Analysis, Research, and Evaluation (VARE) Section, Research Scientist Supervisor I (RSS I). The Research Scientist III (Social/Behavioral) develops and runs complex statistical models to analyze, monitor, and evaluate vendor management activities and food expenditure and utilization trends. Supports the WIC Division in developing, monitoring, and evaluating the WIC program by conducting sophisticated and innovative statistical analyses and research activities. Acts as a scientific and technical lead for research staff in the Branch. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills including reviewing and editing documents 4. Three or more years conducting descriptive and inferential statistics using a software program such as SAS or R Experience in: 1. Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting various forms of data and querying large databases. 2. Communicating sensitive and confidential materials clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats. 3. Leading workgroups, projects, or teams. 4. Social/behavioral quantitative and/or qualitative research methods. Knowledge of: 1. Data-driven decision-making techniques and data visualization techniques. 2. Government assistance programs. 3.
